Drink Driving Senator

Ireland
June 3, 2012 1:41pm CST
Last night, after watching Snow White at the cinema, I was standing at the door with some friends when a local senator here in Ireland from a small town local to me slowly ambled out the door, clearly highly intoxicated, wandered slowly and disoriented to his 2012 car, got in, pulled out tentatively and then proceeded to drive home. Disgusting. Particularly for me because he's a local senator in a small town who ought to be an upstanding member of the community and instead spends his time eating too much and drink driving instead of policing his out of control son. He has been caught for drink driving before, but nothing ever came of it and he was evidently let away with it. It obviously didn't teach him a lesson. Perhaps I ought to have phoned the police, but to be honest, I've lost faith in them doing anything about him. In this country it's who you are and who you know and this guy and people like him don't get done for these things. It's disappointing.

It is disappointing. There have been many occasions here that I have thought the same thing. Not the exact same circumstances, but the same thoughts. I try to remember that karma is a nasty thing sometimes. I don't think there is anyone that escapes it really. I bet he is a sad sad man.

Hopefully karma will come back and bite that 'man' in the backside and hopefully it won't drag anyone else down with him when it does. I've resolved to report him immediately next time I see this (I don't doubt that there will be a next time) and when he comes to my door looking for my votes he'll get the door shut in his face at the very least, depending on my mood, perhaps worse.

I am as disgusted as you at this information, TheIrishClog. All the more so since you have learned that calling the police would not have resulted in anything positive happening. Perhaps you could have called the local media and alerted them to it. They could have tracked him down and publicized his sorry condition and then that may, eventually, make a difference in the future. I have zero tolerance for drinking and driving and I have called the police more times than I can count when I witness such offensive and negligent behavior. But I also know what you mean about high profile people who get away with such behavior because of their position. How sad.

Thanks PageTurner. It's something that also disgusts me. I must say that I have once called the police on my own father's cousin to get him stopped. Zero tolerance for the win

This is the worst thing.People who are supposed to take responsibilities of the public itself are behaving like this. This is totally irritable. Why they are like this.If they cant behave in a dignity they should be withdrawn from the position..It is truly disappointing..

I believe that while fortunatly those kind of things don´t happen all the time, they happen too many times everywhere, enough for you to lose faith in justice. If you have money or power, it´s easier for you to get away with everything .

Hi, TheIrishClog. What you saw is pretty commen in China, except that senators there got themselves drivers. Moreover, Chinese people can't possess their own land. Even they spend all of their money on a house, what they got is only 70 years' right of habitation. What is the worst, Chinese people even don't have the right to vote. All they can do is to follow Chinese Communist Party to so-called communistic society. Fortunately, I am living in such an amazing country. How happy I am!!!

hi the Irishclog, that really terrible behavior for anyone but especially when he should be showing some responsibality as an out standing member of society,, The terrible think about that situtation is based on what you explained, nothnig is going to happen until he really hurt some innocent by stander on in a auto accident...but it;s then going to be to late.
