What can you do? I have read about how to handle it. Don't run Don't look the dog in the eyes Try to stad so that yout back is covered Talk friendly to the dog But I remember someone saying there are whistles that have a sound very unpleasant for dogs to hear. They can be handy to have with us as they might make the attacking dog run away. My question is, do you know where to buy such a whisle??

If the dog is actually attacking you as opposed to just threatening then I doubt any whistle would be effective. 1. If you have time wrap some clothing round your left arm and use that to protect vital areas 2. Hold your left arm in front of you the forearm paralleled to the ground 3. When the dog bites on to your arm, force a finger of your right hand into his eye, or 2 fingers if you can 4. Call a doctor to deal with your broken arm all the best urban

I hope to be able to avoid a situation like this. Better be prepared in some way. Well, most dogs just bark, and don't attack, and I can handle that by standing still and pretending to be a tree..

Yeah, we should all learn from this dog whisperer. He seems to know a lot about dogs...

LOL.. you are so hilarious, Buenavida. But you are right - pretending to be a tree is the only way that I could apply when my neighbour's dog comes near to me. Lol.. I have watched "Dog whisperer" show in tv - and he has a lot of effective ways to train a dog and how to calm a dog

I have also heard of these whistles. Apparently you have to approach the dog and put the whistle in the dog's mouth and as long as he is whistling, he won't be able to bite you. But if he doesn't like to whistle now he will be even more mad. Just kidding! I would rather buy one at a pet shop, if they exist and work. If you are not happy you can always return it. On the internet you might be sold something useless. Keep us informed on what you find!

The dog might like the whistle so much that it doesn't give it back.. Or what if the dog swallows the whistle...can't give it back before operating the dog... Well, we have no petshop in our place here, but I can call one in some town and ask. You may be right, urban, better be prepared with something else, just in case..

Yeah, that would be a good place to ask, as they could give some other advice too how to behave in such a situation!

I will be so scared to see a mean dog. My husband told me how to deal with me if a dog tries to attack to me. If the dog is going to attack me, then the best way for me is to bend down and never try to run away since the dog will run after you and then catch you. You bend down and pretend to pick up a stone. The dog will be scared to see it and it thinks you may throw him a stone. And usually the dog will just go away. Never show your scary attitude to the dog. I love China

I don't know if it helps to pretend to take up a stone.. Maybe the dog then thinks you are going to attack and becomes even more mad..?? The best thing can be to pretend if the dog is not there. Someone advised: Be like a tree.. and don't look the dog in the eyes.. I will continue the research to find the whistle that the dog's ears cannot stand to hear. Let's see if I find one, or someone else does!

I think that it is great there are things that you can get to stop a dog attack, after all there are a lot more dog attacks that we all hear about.I have one, but it also is to prevent constant barking. You can get them I think off Ebay, as that is where we got ours.

Hi, jugsjugs Thanks for the info, is it really working? I may find something in a petshop here in Sweden too. It could be good to have a whistle - just in case - and it is prevents barking, that is excellent.

then, you have to go to pet shop. I see a lot of it there. Easier than buying online. You can see the detail, ask some question to the guard if you don't understand, or choose your favourite colour... You may to try it with your dog directly too, if the product give the guarantee.. Hope you choose the best choice..

It might be the best thing to do, if I have a chance to visit a pet shop.. I have no dog, so maybe I can test it on a dog of my friends, but have to ask permission, of course. Thanks for your advice!

I bought one of those whistles once but it did not influence the dog I tried it on. I have read that about not looking the dog in the eyes, too, but if you are being attacked, trust me on this, it is very hard not to look at the dog's face. They say also not to make a loud noise like screaming or yelling. I had a problem with a dog in the neighborhood once and I knew there was going to be a time I would have to deal with him at close range so I did keep a gallon of water out on the porch with me while I was working there and this dog did indeed sneak up on me and started to spring toward me in a very menacing way and fortunately I was able to scare him away by throwing the whole gallon of water so that it landed right in front of his face. It was a pit bull and the mouth was open as he came toward me, so I think I was very lucky to have repelled the advance.

Sometimes we can prevent an attack if we are prepared. But this kind of dog should not be let running around and scare people..

If a dog attack me it will be either me or it going to get hurt and it definitely wont be me . I would not run maybe when I was a kid I would but now I would stand and look for something to hit that dog with . I will not stand and take a dog bite if I can help it

Pet stores would be the first place I would check. Second place would be Internet search, might want to do that the other way around. Next time a dog attacks me, I am going to hurt him or her. There was a movie I saw once, where if they told the guy that if the sled dogs gives you too much trouble bite its ear...I think it's balony. But dog bites hurt, A LOT. Got bit once, didn't like it. So next time, I fight back. It is hard to remember to use a friendly voice when being growled and snapped at. Anyway, that is my view on the matter. Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Sounds scaring, well, we have to defend ourselves against an attack. In ancient times people had swords - there were wild animals like bears and lions - and still are - at some places.
