As early as 1 year old, my son knows how to manipulate our gadgets such as an ipod. He is almost 3 now, and knows where the home buttons, the icons for his fave apps. He can play Temple Run too on our common tablet. If there's a change in icon settings, he still can identify which application he is going to use. Lately, he is able to use the PSP and for just a couple of days, he can play with it without supervision.
What I love about these gadgets is, we can download educational applications suited for him, which I have noticed that he can spend more than half an hour learning Colors and shapes, alphabets and puzzles.
I am so much concerned about his attention span now that he is about to go to school. About a week from now, he will sitting with other children this time with a teacher, not just the gadgets. Should I refrain him from using these gadgets before school starts? Or should I replace them with books and crayons?Or would I just let him go through with his daily routine?

I think an even balance of both is awesome!! You are never too young to learn how to use gadgets that is what that world has come to nowadays... It is about how responsible they are with themand not about how old they are . At 1 that is amazing he didn't just want to bite it, throw it or bang it on the wall lol.

Yes. the electronic gadgets are taking over our lives, but with this in mind, there are books and crayons and pencils too.
If you do not want your child to go through withdrawals of not having a gadget in his hands then, yes start weining him off of the gadgets. introduce him to books and pictures in magazines. Take him to a local playground or Park and let him be around other children to see how he interacts with the other children. Teach him how to wait his turn and to share with others if this has not been introduced to him yet. Good Luck:-0

There's a part which I really miss to impart on my kid. It's exposing him to other children. Partly because there was this one time when I let him play in one of the Playhouses here, then the next day he got sick. I was terrified of him ending up confined in the hospital. I blamed it to the playhouse where he played. So there! Mom had a trauma and the effect goes to my little boy.
