Th!nk before you ink ...is it safe to have tattoo?

I happened to see my colleague and surprisingly, she got an ink! I didn't notice that until today. Well, she forgot to conceal her red roses tat...So I asked her when she got one, she replied that she had the tattoo for more than a decade. And I asked why she has been hiding it? She just said that she had the biggest mistake during her early years, so that's why she uses concealer everyday for the ink. I was wondering how safe tattoos are? I know there are many artists out there, opening their own tattoo studios. Are these studios being controlled by the government's health department, ensuring our safety? Because if they are, why not have one!

I'm pretty sure that all tattoo shops are regulated by the health department in some way and I know that all of the tattoo shops that I have been to have certificates that show that they have had proper training to do safe ink jobs and safe piercings. Obviously if you don't see those certificates in the shop than I wouldn't recommend going there but I think that most artists are concerned with their customers help and want to do the best job they possibly can. I have two tattoos right now, one is an ohm symbol on my left forearm and the other one covers the whole front of my neck and throat and it is a heart inside of a lotus flower, with the throat chakra in the center of it. It also has blue and gold rays around it to make it luck like it has an aura. The place I got it done was a really nice shop and both the artists there did great work and both had certificates for training in sterile tattooing so there were no worries of infection or anything. I know that in Michigan they made it a law that artists are required to have that training and that's where I live now so I don't know about other areas but I'm assuming it's probably the same.

You must be an artist too? I guess most of those who want to get ink are artists, for most they call it an art. For some who couldn't appreciate, they simply don't want to get one. An ohm is an electrical symbol in physics , am i right? Must be a very significant symbol to you.

Yes they do apparently use it in physics but I love it because of the spiritual significance of the ohm symbol. It helps to create cosmic vibrations while meditating and is also the sound of creation, the noise that created the universe, and is also a Tibetan symbol for god.

I have 7 and love them all... I go to a tattoo shop that I know is clean and safe. And they open the needles in front of you so that you know that they are clean and new!! If the shop is filthy and I have never heard of the place I would not dare get a tattoo from them. I would research the place first to make sure I am in good hands :)

Good to hear about this kind of shop. Makes you feel safer. You got 7 tattoos and I must say you got a lot of pain threshold. ;)

I think business of these nature needs to get a permit for sanitary purposes, for customers' health safety. But some shops don't use clean syringes. Some re-uses the same syringe to other customers that could cause HIV, AIDS, hepatitis, and other diseases. I have nothing against people who likes to have tattoo, but I don't want to have one on my skin. I don't want to do something that I will someday regret. I mean, what if I reach the age of 80+ and the tattoo is still there on my sagging skin? Hahaha! Just a thought. =D

Well there are ingredients in many inks that are not vegan so I think it's unfair to be cruel towards animals just to have a decoration, in the other hand not harmful for animals but there are ingredients there that are harmful for people, yes! I read about it how people might have reaction, be it an alergy or even that the product is really bad for humans but they haven't finded out yet, that it's not a common knowledge. The best thing is go very natural and do a lot of research, the tatoo guy must be someone with a great reputation: - His drawings must be amazing because did you see this? http://tattoofailure.com/ - His reputation must be good on being honest, if you don't want an ingredient in your ink he can't lie to you - Better a tatoo artist that listen to you and calms you down, I have a belly piercing and the guy didn't say it was going to hurt the way it did, it was a little scarry, he said that with the thing he put it was not going to hurt at all, it was like the freaking most painful thing in the world, he never calmed me down and lied to me, until today I stopped many people from going there , hehehe, people just mess with me once

No ! It's against the laws of God ! Infection – Dirty needles can pass infections, , like hepatitis and HIV, from one person to another. Allergies – Allergies to various ink pigments in both permanent and temporary tattoos have been reported and can cause problems.Scarring – Unwanted scar tissue may form when getting or removing a tattoo. Granulomas – These small knots or bumps may form around material that the body perceives as foreign, such as particles of tattoo pigment. MRI complications – People may have swelling or burning in the tattoo when they have magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This happens rarely and does not last long.

I think getting a tattoo is pretty safe, as far as health is concerned. If you really want to get one though it's probably better to do so from a well known tattoo shop, that you know you can trust. Apart from the health issues there is of course the matter of regretting it in the future. A tat is going to stick with you for your whole life, so it's probably a nice idea to keep it small in size!;) In any way, i would never get one, even though I used to want onesome years ago, i have changed my mind, and i'm glad i never got it.

Hello, vanate29. They are, but I would not recommend anyone get one. I was in a prison environment and there were those who gave and those who received tattoos. Now In a place where everything is controlled, it is not hard to see why they would frown on tattoos. One of the most common things that took place within a prison setting was the spread of Hep. C. This was due to dirty needles, and the other things they were using. But, in a place like a tattoo parlor, they are safe. One thing they look at is the sanitary environment. I would never get one because it is stated in the Bible that we are not to mark our bodies, for any reason. Plus I dont like them. I have no piercings either because I have no use for them.
