Fasting For Permanent Weight Loss

I'm thinking of going on a 10 day fast for weight loss. I don't know if I want to try to do this with just water or with juicing. I've run this by a lot of people and mostly everyone is very negative. I believe fasting will not only help with quick weight loss, but will also start a healing process. My body is full of toxins which should be eliminated through fasting.

I've fasted before and it helped me tremendously. It not only clears a little fat from the body, it clears a lot of gunk from the system. It helps with the brain fog also. Hardest part is getting support. When people know you are not eating, they do everything possible to sabotage your efforts.

Fasting can be very therapeutic if you do it properly. I think ten days is a bit much and would recommend no more than 3 days. You can possibly damage your kidneys and liver and cause your muscles to deteriorate if you fast too long. Your body will consume muscle before it consumes fat, that's due to the body's survival mechanisms. Why not do it for 3 days instead? Be sure to stay hydrated. I would not recommend juices because you're cutting your body off of everything but sugar with no protein to even out the sugar highs. I'd stick to water if I were you and limit it to 3 days. You only lose water weight and muscle when you fast. Sure, you flush out toxins but if you do it too long you'll lose everything but your fat. You'd need to have a pretty significant weight loss before you begin to lose fat and by then your organs are in trouble. Please be careful.

Interesting you say I will lose muscle before the fat. My experience is just the opposite. All great men throughout history at some point in their life fasted. Juices are not necessarily full of sugar. I like cucumber based juices. Although I do drink a lot of carrot juice which is full of sugar. You say just do 3 days, it takes 3 days to stop the incredible hunger pains. I never notice any health benefits until at least the 5th day.

So you've done this before? Well, then, you know what your body can tolerate. I'm just citing personal experience and studies I've read about how the body fuels itself in the absence of vitamins and proteins it needs. I would also be concerned about your potassium levels. Remember Terry Schiavo? Her condition was believed to have been the result of drastically low potassium. So be careful. If that's you in your avatar, you certainly look don't look like you need to lose weight!

By the way, I read a book called "Wheat Belly" and eliminated most wheat from my diet almost a week ago. I've already dropped 3 pounds and I'm beginning to feel more energy and improved concentration.

i have heard that skipping meals is not good for your body because your body is still needing that energy that it gets from food and contrary to the thought that if the body gets no food, it will start eating away at fat; no, i have heard that at that point, the body starts eating away at the muscle.

I can testify that the body eats the fat first. At least my body loves fat. When I fast, the first thing I lose is my big fat stomach. I guess it depends on the size of the body fasting.

I don't have experience in this area but I think that you should set a longer term goal for eating less and exercising more for weight loss. I recently found out that the amount of fat cells in one's body doesn't decrease but one loses weight when the cells decrease in size. That sort of decreases my motivation for dieting at all but still, I think we should aim to eat healthier and exercise more. Even without weight loss, we'll be healthier. Good luck.

I also think long term goals are better than short term goals. I think we should eat healthier and also exercise more. Now a days lots of people try to take junk food and that is one of the problem for obesity and one should try to cut junk food as far as possible.

Are you also planning to do any colonic cleansing with this detox? I think that a good juice fast with daily colonics will do wonders for you. But I am not so sure about the water fasting. I know people who have done them but I would not attempt them myself. Firstly I don't think that I would have the mental toughness to go without food and secondly I think that the body still requires nutrition which is why I think juice fasting is better. It is still very cleansing but a lot safer. I have heard too many horror stories about water fasting, including people dying, even while being supervised at retreats!

I just started a 3 day water fast. Will move to a juice fast after the 3rd day. Will do daily enemas. I've never heard of anyone dying from fasting. I have seen and heard of many miraculous cures from fasting.

I think it is not a smart Idea. Where are you going to take all the vitamins that you need everyday, even if you want to grow slimmer, you don't have to starve yourself for it. The subject about loosing weight is so much talked about. I'm sure if your eat a good meal everyday and spend the same amount of calories you've eaten you wont gain weight provide that you, make long walks, ride a bike, do some yoga to learn how to stress your muscles and relax , go swimming, but you have to be persistent in whatever you do that is the key, don't starve yourself for some time and then after that do the same as before than gain more weigh, it can be more discouraging than anything else.

That's the beauty of fasting. It is for a short period of time. The body can do with nutrients while fasting because it feeds off of the excess fat cells in the body. A process called autolysis. Really fascinating. After the fast, I will feel like exercising, and yoga.

I have had a fasting for 3 days with only water for intake and not even juice... I only lost 2 pounds when i had it done. I think you would lose even more when you follow a low calorie diet - preferable only juice and vegetables and stay out of fat and juices that are not freshly made. Actually if you have heard of the GM Diet, i think it is rather better option for you as it won't let you starve- if you still go on with your routine and instead detoxify with fruit and veggie diet, you will be even healthier and with a huge weight loss. I haven't personally tried it but i did see a good result with a friend who did. it is just about a week and average weight loss is 10 to 15 pounds... add exercise to your routine and you could lose even more.

And another thing, fasting will not lower your toxins. Your toxins leave your body by excreting them, and you won't be excreting, if you're not eating. If you're not eating, then the toxins in your body have a longer period of time to harm you, rather then get rid of them. From reading your other comments, I can see that you've done this before, and you have some kind of idea that it's a helper. It isn't, what you're getting is a placebo effect from hurting yourself. Of course, doing it for 1 week isn't going to really hurt you, you can adapt from it, but in the long run, it is bad for you.

Fasting won't work for weight loss. If you don't eat for a long period of time, your body will go into a low metabolic state, which means that you will have very little energy to do things, and you'll burn off very little fat, which is the main reason people try and loose weight, to get rid of fat. Instead, your body will get it's nutrients from your muscle, so it can greatly weaken your muscles, and you'll loose the water weight in your body, and you'll be malnourished, which can lead to a bunch of problems... your immune system won't be running nearly as well, and you'll have higher chances of infection. Plus, the worst of the worst, is that if you're fasting, then as soon as you get off it, the majority of the weight will come back. You'll have a low metabolism, so the vast majority of what you eat, will be stored in your body, rather then burnt. That means, you'll get more fat, even from eating very little food. The best way to loose weight, is to keep eating, just set a good level of calories. Look up calories and diet plans online, and you'll find some great ways to loose weight, efficiently.

If your body is full of toxins then why dont you just wear those detox foot patches at night when you are sleeping, ive heard those are great and you wake up feeling relived too. There in expensive and there not of course a weight loss thing at all but will relieve you of your bodies toxins at least. You can start doing other things for weight loss. Just by walking around the block might help you or even picking up your knees like you are jogging while you are in the shower might start helping. It might be the little things that will help you out.

I have more toxins than foot patches will remove. I need a total body cleanse. You can tell when your skin is not perfectly clear. I hate jogging.

Hi teamrose. If you are looking to lose weight and balance your system I have several friends in Canada that went on the HCG Diet. If you want to check it out, go to http://www.myhcgsolution.com/myhcgsolution-drops Once you read this you will see a tab on Diet too you can read on. I have bought the bottle and am going to give it a try. My problem comes in that I have a husband that has diabetes and has to have regular meals. it will make this diet hard on me but I am gonna give it a try. Let me know what you think of it. I got my bottle at a health food store so I got it cheaper than they are selling it online. whatever you do good luck. I want to get the cellulite out of my belly. I am a small frame woman and when you get the belly fat you notice it is harder to do things. So I am exercising and watching what I eat also. Like you I eat a lot of fruits. My downfall is I love bread.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am going to do it this time without any supplements. I have been reading a lot on fasting and did it before. I was so amazed at how good I felt after getting through the first 4 days. Fasting is quick and the results are immediate.

Hi, I think fasting for 10 days is not good for your health. you should consult dietician for weight losing. Dietician can tell you how to take your diet with low calories and without troubling your general health. We need all nutrients for our good health. If you have 10 days fast then you will become weak. with diet control you should do some exercise.

This is not good for your health. You can drink lots of water and eat healthy food.Take in less calories then you burn in a day.Eat fresh fruit instead of drinking fruit juice, you can regular exercise every day.It is good for your health keep it up.

That is very challenging. I couldn't even fast for 2 days during Holy Week. If you want to detoxify your body, perhaps, you could try some detox mix, instead of purely water or juice.

It is not desirable to do fasting for more than two days and that to just for weight loss. Because after fasting there is a weakness. Instead applying a balanced diet everyday and once in a while a small fasting too will serve the purpose. Avoid fast and junk food and doing of proper exercise definitely helps to weight loss.
