I'v watched a very interesting discussion on TV just this morning about what happened in one public school in Manila that some of their students were offered to avail of Home Study Program by DEPED instead of attending the regular class from Monday to Friday, the reason given by the DEPED people is that, they can no longer accommodate students in one school because of lack of classroom, and it is their option to let the students continue their studies. In Home Study Program, students will be given a module to be studied at home, attached to the last part of the module is a series of exam/test to be answered by the students from the given topic in the module. Students are required to go to school only on Saturdays. I'm just worried if such Home Study program wouldn't compromise the future of the youth, because for me, high school students couldn't study alone, assistance of the educators is still important taking into consideration that they are still young and wild. Exams/tests is self serving, all the answers of they test will be definitely found on their book/module, and they are free to look back to what they have read while answering the test, its absolutely out of the control of a mentor/teacher.. How about you guys? what is your opinion about this?

In my opinion, there are just too many valuable components of regular schooling. As you mentioned, there is the obvious lack of mentoring from teachers and lack of control when it comes to exams and tests. However, I think it is also important that students are able to socialize with each other and discuss any questions or opinions regarding the material. Based on personal experience, I found that group study and discussion was extremely beneficial to my high school learning experience. We helped each other in our difficulties and worked towards the answers together, which I believe no teacher nor self-study can substitute. While home-studying provides the benefits of independence and promotes self-teaching, I think it is also important to learn to work with others!

My brother is incoming 4th year student of homestudy program. He went through different assessment and interviews before he was allowed to be enrolled before. Each one has different reason why they chose it instead of regular schooling. I still prefer the regular class though because I believe that you can't squeeze all the subjects in just one day.

I think there are many doing this already. I know Bo Sanchez's son is doing home study instead of attending a regular school. Most artist are also doing this I know several ABS talents are doing this as well to be able to cope with their jobs and finishing their schooling. I also know Patrimonio's daughter is also doing home schooling as well. I have no biases against them or for regular schooling for as long as the teachers that will evaluate them would not be lenient and teaching them would be as good as those of the regular schooling. Since studying is done alone by the students the learning is not as much as those who attended where the student can grasp their lesson by interacting with other students thus making the learning process more enjoyable and sociable. For me regular schooling enables the students to develop not only their cognitive but social skills as well that which is not learned when you are at home only.

I agree with you.. because source of learning does not limit to the books or other instructional materials provided by the school. In some point, learning is effectively acquired beyond those books. More so, study habit and attitude towards studies is learned in a classroom.

well, it is one of the ways to cope with the shortage of classrooms in the metropolis. for me, home study is better than crowding a classroom with 80 students, thus compromising the learning of all students. the crucial task in this program is the selection of students who will undergo this study program. they must be motivated to learn and parents are involved in the program.

Hoping that all parents will be responsible enough to guide their children with that home studies. But why they sacrificing the future of the students, in the first place it is their job to provide sufficient/enough classroom for the people,we are paying taxes for free and quality education for all. It is very so sad to know that the government spent millions for CORONA case but cannot provide enough classroom.

We do have that program in one of the public schools here in our place. The students are given the modules to study and are required to go to school every other Saturdays. In some ways, it is a big help for people who are not able to go to school regularly because they are working, or have gotten married before graduating from high school. Others who enroll in this program also have failed in some subjects previously or those who have stopped schooling for some time. There are pros and cons with Homeschooling and it's a better option for others. For me, if I am still a student, I would attend school regularly if I can, but if not, I would choose Homeschooling.
