have you done it?
today is very very hot. and the frequent brownouts make it unbearable. first, because there will be no cold water or ice in the refrigerator; second, tap water will not flow during brownouts.
but it is so uncomfortable and i know i need to even just a brief shower. would you believe i was able to? have soaped my entire body, used a little shampoo on my thin hair and hurray!!!
there is a technique.
i will tell you mine if you tell me yours.

When we camped when I was a child and later when I camped as an adult I learned to bathe with very little water. I was once homeless for a couple of months and lived in a tent in the desert while I worked to save up for an apartment. I can actually bathe with just one gallon of water by getting wet, soaping and rinsing. I don't pour water over me to get wet, I wet my hand and run it down my body. Rinsing is done with careful pouring. I cut my hair very short so that I could wash it with less than 1 gallon of water but it is much longer now so I would need at least a gallon to rinse it--then I'd probably want to stand out in the rain to be sure the soap was all out!
One technique I learned in the desert was to rub sand into my scalp to absorb the oils and dirt then rinse. It's best to have a deep bowl of water for this method, or a stream where you can dunk your head repeatedly.
So that's how I do it--or did it. Thank God I have plenty of water, a home of my own and a shower!

hi dragon,
thats amazing especially the desert technique. although i dont think it would do me well. i wont be able to stand sand in my scalp. i tried being in the beach and getting some sand unintentionally on my hair. well i guess those are different types of sand anyways (yours - the desert sand and mine - the beach sand). i had to use very fine comb because all the sand had stuck in the head even after showering for more than 30 minutes.

I hate sand in my hair!! But at the time I preferred having a clean, slightly sandy head to dirty hair, which is about the worst thing about not being able to bathe. When my hair is dirty I feel like there's a plastic bag over my head, I get so hot and feel so greasy! Well, we do what we have to. Have great day!!

hi jaiho,
yours and my technique are almost the same. for me, two face towels, one i dip in a glass first and then put soap and rub. the other face towel, i also wet from the glass of water to rinse the soap off.
have a nice day.

Yes, I think I was able to do it before. In the city where I live, we have a little problem with our water supply. In the home where we are living right now, there is only a time of the day when you could fetch water from the sink. We needed to wake up maybe at 7-8 am to fetch some water. If we woke up at 9am, there would be no more water that would come out from our faucet. So, at times, when we weren't able to wake up a bit early because we usually wake up late due to the nature of our job, we also take a bath with just two bottles of water. We also do what you have done. We splash some water to our hair and body, apply some shampoo on our hair, apply some soap all over our body and rinse. In our place, we really should use water wisely. We should have our techniques too so we could get through our lives when the access of water isn't so easy compared to other places. :)

hello ladybugs,
i agree that some places especially those in more elevated areas get less water during peak hours. that is where the technique gets well used.
funny but i guess now with most places submerged in flood, still there are those who could not find enough water to bathe on.
have a nice day.

I am just going to take a bath in the morning because in the morning, the water is still cold. To survive, I would buy an ice. The ice is cheap and I think this is the only way I could survive, he he

I am tryng to figure out how large the bottles are..but anything under a gallon each would indeed be a small amount. I have never done that. The very few times I went camping I used wipes and I didn't enjoy it at all..I couldn't wait to get home and take a shower...

stary,
its a one 500 ml bottle and the other one was less than a liter.
i say too, i would prefer water than wipes. i feel more sticky with the latter.
have a nice day.

How big are those bottles? Lol
I have tried bathing/showering with limited water when a typhoon had made our water supply be cut. The water that time was very hard and the drinking water prices almost got tripled. So, taking a bath should be really with limited water to have enough water for cooking and drinking.

hi zarasoc,
it was really very little. its a one 500 ml bottle and the other one was less than a liter. the 500 ml was used while soaping. the other one was for the rinsing.
funny to remember but it was one great achievement for me who is used to bathing in shower.
have a great day.

When we are put into these situations we can find a way to get things done if we must. I know all about water issues and one adapts to the situation at hand.

Two bottles of water does not work for me. I love my showers a lot. Here in Nevada we have water restrictions and I decided that if they can have multiple gulf courses, hotels, and other businesses that use and waist gallons of water then I most certainly can use what water I need to use to take a shower, do my laundry, and my dishes. Also I blame California for taking Nevada allotment along with their allotment of water for their needs. I don't think that is fair also. They have more water parks, hotels, and other businesses that use and waste water than Nevada, Arizona, and Utah put together. I decided until businesses, governments, and other states do their part to preserve the water I will keep on using what I feel I need to use.

hi sandra,
i too would feel the way you do when you see others wasting the precious water while others are trying to save each drop. and yes, it is not fair.
i am not living in the desert and i am used to having a lot of water on stock as well. but then this time came. two bottles and no more. i am happy i was able to refresh myself.
the water came after a few hours. so back to the usual shower.
have a nice day.

hello kal,
your response is so funny i cant stop laughing.
surely it would be of help. little towellettes would be a great help to conserve the water. of course you will be rid of the sweaty smell and will feel much refreshed. but of course the real bath is one most refreshing.
i hope to hear news from the professor. i hope he is coming soon and feeling much better.

Hi there,
Actually, I am a naive in terms of English...I didn't get anything you expressed in the text....but yes the title attracted me and I am here...
bathing with just 2 bottles....yes I have seen this happening in Rajasthan where I live....

hi nishant5n,
i have made the discussion because it is not usual where i live. here, water is always available from the tap and it could be used for drinking and for bathing and other needs because it is safe and clean.
i always have a big container full but then the brownout was so sudden i was not ready. when the brownout comes, the water in the tap will not flow because probably the generator that pumps it is through electricity.
anyways, you can just imagine how funny it is to bathe in two little bottles as compared to one big container..
that is the message am trying to set here.

Hi tigeraunt,
I've read your technique on jai's comment. It's a great technique when you really need to just feel a bit refreshed on a hot and humid day with no electricity and water... it helps.
