I was walking on my way to the van terminal this morning when I heard a loud beep at my back. So I hurriedly get on the side thinking that I was already in the middle of the street. But I realized I was in the gasoline station so I turn back and saw a private vehicle. I walk few more steps and I noticed that the vehicle was not going so I stopped for a while and looked at the driver. I've seen a man around thirty five to forty. He asked me if I wanted to take a free ride to my office. I shake my head and said, "thank you but No."
Did you ever experienced an offer like this from an unknown person? How did you react?

when i get offers like that, i usually decline because i don't know the person. it's very dangerous to take rides from people you don't know. some people don't mean any harm, but you just can't tell which one's will and which one's won't.

Yes. With the present situation in the world, we can tell anymore which is which. The best thing to do is to keep ourselves safe at all times. The old proverb still prevails, "don't talk to strangers."

I haven't had such an offer from a stranger. I guess people around here in my city are too shy to offer a ride to a stranger or they're just scared of the consequence.
I have my own car so i guess this doesn't apply to me. But i haven't offered a ride to a stranger or a hitch hiker because i'm scared they might do something bad to me no matter how decent they look. Not that someone asked me for a free ride.
But when i was young, my parents would usually stop and give people who are walking a free ride to their destination and they were strangers. I enjoyed witnessing that and i was glad that we could help them. But that was a very long time ago when people were still kind.

Hi toni. Thank you for sharing your opinion. I appreciate you for sharing about the good deeds of your parents. Actually it is really a good deed. I don't know also the motive of the man I mentioned but because I don't know him and I am just keeping myself safe that is why I have to decide outright. It's just a precautionary measure for me.

Free ride offered by unknown or strange people is quite scary and weird.I won't take the ride too as you did cause we will never know what's on the back of his mind and what will happen if you take the offer.
Good thing that you refuse the offer.
Have a safe travel.

Hi ardoy! Thank you for sharing your opinion. Yes you are definitely right! We should not take an offer from a stranger.

I've also received offers from strangers but I do the exact same thing as you did.
Even if that person is just being kind and generous I feel it's important to be cautious. If I accept the ride I would be taking a huge risk because there's no guarantee that I would ever reach my destination.
There's a reason why our parents taught us not to accept rides from strangers.

yeah, i like those people who help with everyone.. taking a free ride may not be the one that is important for us but in this way , it only shows that there are some people that have a good, sincere heart and willing to help others..

I have in big cities like chicago or vegas... I politely say no thank you and walk fast to get near a big crowd of people lol. It makes me nervous cause it is hard to trust any stranger these days

I guess you are right with your decision. Sometimes taking free ride from unknown person could harm you. If ever I will be offered by like this one, I would rather say no and pay for the ride in other vehicle than taking the risk of having a free ride.

No. That is so weird. Why he would offer you a ride? He does not even know you.

I was taking my son to school one rainy morning, and I saw this girl wearing the same school's uniform walking in the rain. I quickly stopped and offered her a ride. Understandably, she was hesitant at first because she does not know me nor my son (even if they go to the same school ). She only accepted when she saw my son's wearing the same school's uniform too. I don't blame her at all because, unfortunately, it is hard to simply trust anybody these days...

Surprisingly this has happened to me more than once before in my life. It seems to usually happen to younger kids or young adults. They were both back when I was younger around the ages of 13 and 14. I was walking to my junior high school when 3 guys in a dark black van pulled up with tinted windows. The driver asked me if I needed a ride to school. I said no right away and kept on walking but the guy kept following me and got even angrier as I kept denying him. Finally I decided to start running and the van sped up to the side of me. I was fortunate enough to have a police car show up in the other direction and I arrived to school safely. You made a good choice of saying no to the guy in the car because you never know what the guy would have done to you.

Hi eric! I really appreciate of you sharing this kind of experience that you had with us here in myLot. This would also serve as a reminder to me to keep reminding my daughter about the same thing.
