well I finally made up my mind to start walking on a regular.
I need one of those devises that determines how many steps/
miles you walk.
I walked a total of 10 city blocks,,,I have no other way of
measuring how much I walked, but I know I was very happy when
I reached back home. I am going to continue.its just more
fun when you walk with someone else..
wish me luck.!!! as I get use to it I hope to be able to do more
and more.

Congratulations on this important step, bjc66bjc. Coincidentally, we also started walking today. We took a nature walk and it was quite pleasant.
I used to have an electronic pedometer called a Sportbrain. I loved it! I would wear it all day and then upload the information it collected onto the computer in the evening (or once a week, etc.) It would compile all of my information and present the data to me in different graphs, etc. It was wonderful and made me want to walk more every day.
I don't know if it's still around, but maybe something similar? It was just a lot of fun to walk with my Sportbrain.

Another thing I have started doing is cutting the grasses with the push mower. Not only the push mower, but the human-powered push mower. This provides me with the excellent exercise.

Years ago I used to go on long evening walks on a regular basis regardless of weather.I used to set off no matter it was raining cats and dogs or whether it is too hot outside.Later on my mother expired and for some reasons I had to stop it.I gave up going on evening walks, but now I am toying with the idea to resume it once again.
I agree with you that after returning from long walks you feel better, much better.I have felt it myself, but I don't like to go on walks in the company of my friends. It is because I prefer going on to far off places where my friends don't want to go.So I like to go on walks in the evening alone.
I wish you all the best.May walking improve your health. All my best wishes.

Walking is great. It is easy on the knees and quite enjoyable. I use to live in a city where I would walk a lot. I would walk on trails, to the store, and even to the bank. It really is a great way to exercise. I would walk in the morning before it got too hot and during the winter. Look out for danger when you do walk, and be sure to wear good shoes. You are on your way to better health with this good physical activity.

I keep telling myself that I am going to walk more, but I never do end up doing it. I hate where I'd have to go walking, and I'd have to pay a cab to go walk where I want to walk, but then that'd be a waste.
I've thought of just doing it anyway, it doesn't hurt me I just don't like walking around here.
You can get pedometer's sometimes from cereal boxes for free, but I've not seen one for it in a long time. You can also try amazon, they probably have some fairly cheap.

Oh thanks SomeCowgirl, as you see I didn;t even know what that`
item was called.lol..
Yes, I has been saying I know I need to walk but that incentive
wasn't there,,so today I said I going to walk. I put on my jeans
then one sneaker nd sat down,,,then I go and put on the other
sneaker and was on my way...
it took me 35 ,minutes to walk those 10 block, but I am happy
for my first day.

There is a place called S2h (step to health) where you can get a pedometer for twenty five dollars and for certain amounts of steps you enter a code and then you get points to redeem for gifts. I would like to do that eventually.

Maybe after this trip I will get back into some walking. I have yard work to do as well. I need to do something for health and fitness. You need a pedometer. You can buy them at sporting good stores and Wal Mart and online. It feels pretty satisfying to see the steps add up.

I am look forward to seeing those step add up as well but until
I purchase one I am going to just do what I am doing. Maybe I
will go to Modell's tomorrow...they can't cost to much.
I had planned to join the YMCA this week for the swimming, it cost
$25.00, but maybe I will wait until I look a little better in my
bikini...
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL, now thats funny even to me.....

I had a pedometer but for me it did not work because it missed some steps - I guess I have to stomp my feet when walking. So what I did was to find out how many steps it takes to walk, for instance, a mile, and how far it takes me to go from bome to this place such as the Mall. This worked. Some pedometers do not work.

Well I need to get back in the habit of walking. I was walking 3 - 4 times a week last summer, but during the winter I get lazy. It is very hard to get back in the habit. I did get out and walk on Monday this week. It probably would help to have a walking buddy, someone to encourage you. Happy walking

Good for you friend for having the motivation of taking exercise. Walking for hour can already burn up calories. Keep doing this. I hope one time I will be motivated to do some exercise too.

I do a ton of walking in the nice months. There is a park just a few blocks from my house that has a small playground for my child and enough open space for my dog. I always feel better when I am active. It helps me to clear my mind, or to just think through stuff. Good luck on your endevours to stay active and walk more. I know that the first week or two can be the hardest. Once it is part of a routine, it gets easier.

Good luck and never stop. It's a healthy thing to do. I wish i could start walking or jogging again. It's been raining since last week. All i could do is exercise at home and i'm getting bored with it.

That's a great job, walking in the morning was a good accomplishment. I walk every morning to maintain my weight and to keep my heart healthy. Walking has a lot of health benefits and its free. Keep doing it. Good luck. :)

That's great! I would walk more if I had someone to walk with, too. I hate to walk alone and I don't like walking where I am. I have driven to a shopping center just so I could walk, though. It's not far from here and one of these days I'll have more confidence in my ability and I'll walk to it.

Recently my friend invited me to walk with her and its may first time. I ask her if she can help me in fulfilling my dream to walk from our house to downtown. I felt burning sensation and had difficulty in walking for a day. I was happy and feel great that i was able to walk 12 kilometers. It became a hobby to walk every other day with her and i feel light, young and blooming.
Back to your question, there's a walking gadgets available in the market, Timex Ironman Speed + Distance GPS Monitor. True speed and true distance provided by a GPS unit. I started walking a few weeks ago too. I avoid walking in the city because of cars and their exhausts. I found some fields close to home. I go there.

Good luck to you. I also want to start walking everyday to strengthen our body and form a good habit. But now I don't have too much time. What a pity.
