This week, I have been listening to a lot of Ludacris music. One time, as I was enjoying one of his song I wondered, what is the difference between rap and hip hop? I have to admit, I enjoy listening to these kind of music but I really don't know how to differentiate the two. I hope someone can enlighten me about this. Thanks in advance.

Why not a fan of this type of music? But your response made me laugh (in a good way) and I don't know why. Thanks for the reply though.

The difference between rap and hip-hop is generally that Hip-hop is known as an actual counter culture and the artists is normally consider themselves a hip-hop artist and are generally much more poetically versed.Rap is the action and usually rappers do not have as in depth of lyrics or social content.A hip-hop artists tends to be much more well versed in the command of the English language and rappers do not. Example would be:Lupe Fiasco or Kendrick Lamar (Hip-hop Artisits) Vs. Young Jeezy or Lil Wayne(Rappers). The lyrical content is obviously different as is the subject matter.Hope this helps
