Work in holiday will you??

If you are said to work in holidays for four hours and in comparison you will get double the salary of your one day salary in weekdays what will you do??
Lets hear what you guys say about it??

When I was working with the private sector, they would pay us double if we worked during holidays. But now I am already working with the government, we are consider on duty 24/7. So even we work during the holidays, we are not given additional compensation for that. But anyway,it's part of our job as public servant.

Every one is a servant some one may servant to public someone may be servant to private.. but there should always be compensation for working on holidays because holidays are made for to take rest not to work for someone..holidays are for our own.. so if someone is using that time time they should buy it no?? do you agree to that??

When I accepted the job, I know the situation will be like this and I accepted it. Being a public servant we commit to prioritize public interest over our personal interest. I agreed on this condition. Although it is tiring sometimes, but when I think that it is for public interest, everything will be okay. It is a different situation when we work at private, every minute counts.

Yes. I agree. But i used to believe that government job is much more comfortable job with lot of holidays. But u have changed my view about government job. I heard that government employee have a fixed time of working (which is a dream to me) and sat and sunday holiday.
so now at this point of time to me both government and private sector is at same point. :)

I worked a job for over a decade in which I had to work nearly every holiday...certainly ever holiday that fell on a weekend. I was never given extra compensation for this work. Especially if the holiday fell on a weekend, or an extended weekend, I couldn't enjoy it because I had to work.
There are times when it would be nice to be compensated for such things.

page turner that must be so hard.. i have been working on holidays for las one year and now i feel i should have a holiday.. my leave has overcame its maximum capacity but still its hard to get a holiday to go home or spend time with family..
but money cannot compensate evrything in life.. :)

I agree with you about money not compensating everything in life, anitoton. I learned to adjust. I often got time off after the holiday, and would do my traveling then. Of course, my friends and family weren't on holiday then.

If you are at home means working staying at home then will you go to office??because going to office means same schedule same boring again and same tired..
for me the office makes me tired for the rest time of the day. and i dont get time to breath dont get time to make my mind free from office work because on the next day i had to some other job again..mind dont get rest in this way..

It depends on my situation at the time. If I have been super busy with work and studies in the previous months I might say no because I need time to relax. If I am in situation where I really need the money I would say yes. I am in that kind of situation at the moment. I still need the last money for my trip so I asked my boss if I could work in the summer holidays when the other employees are going on vacation. He said that I could get as much work as I wanted, because he needs someone to cover for the employees who are going to be away from work. I am going to work every day in July and August. I don't get extra money for that, I just get a normal salary, but I am still happy because I really want to save up the last money for my trip and unless I work in the summer holidays I don't have enough money for my trip.

ya aridbee when i first joined i thought i am have started my career i should work hard and i am stating in another state so i dont have anythiong to do on holidays so if working for four hours can give some money why not avail it.. but as the time passed by i am getting bored of that office room, same old office room, same nagging workaholic boss same work.. so now a days i think i will pay some and please let me sleep freely, tensionlessly..

If I work during my holidays, I get extra work from people who invite me and I am happy for it as I earn some extra money. If I work for my school, the pay is far less, but I will still work for it because I have to place the school interest in the first place. Take care.

i will take it. it is just four hours and then i will be free. any additional income nowadays is welcome and must be sought. many people look for any work that will make them earn a little bit more to add to their savings or buy their basic needs. unless you have other things planned for that holiday. if none, by all means, please take it.

There are jobs that during the interview, the employer will already ask you if you are willing to render overtime and willing to work on holidays. I was newly graduate back then and I really need a job so I accepted this administrative work in a mall nearby. I only have one restday and that is during Monday. I also worked in a semicon company where I work 16 hours a day, Mondays-Sundays. Money is the most priority that time so I really don't mind rendering overtime or working even if it is holiday. I was also young that time, it really doesn't hurt me at all if I didn't get enough sleep. But when I reached 30, everything changed. Can't even stay late at night. Am not so sure if I can still work 16 hours a day.

Well working 4 hours is not bad equivalent with the double salary but if you have plans for holiday or wanted to have rest then I think better not accept it.

I have had to work on the holidays before. I had to work on Easter. It was not fun at all, and I think no one should have to work.

working holidays is a must at my job
and I HATE it
no,I do not get paid double and no,I do not work only a few hours
but if I choose not to work a holiday I can get another job!

Hi anitoton,
That will be mind-blowing. Working in holiday would be what I would love depending on the timing and the kind of holiday am into. The pay would be what will make me to work and see what I could generate to meet some eminent needs that arises forthwith after holidays is over.
