Does Anyone Go To Garage Sales Anymore?

I'm thinking of having a garage sale. I have so much stuff to sell that is in pretty good condition. I have a lot of purses, some clothes, some books, etc.
Do you have garage sales? Have you been successful? Do you still go to garage sales? Do you think I should have one?

I am not sure how it would turn out in your area but here it is a BIG thing going to yard/garage sales.
My husband and I have had yard sales. We did it Friday & Saturday the week before last and made $350. For one weekend that wasn't too bad.
I think it also depends on the items you have for sale. We had small furniture(bookshelf, coffee table & small dresser) & baby items like stroller, swing, toys, etc...Baby items are a big hit here. =)
We are going to be doing it again this weekend to sell more of our stuff.

I live on a busy street and sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes a bad thing. I think we did garage sales when I was younger, but I barely remember them or if they were successful. I think we had two, if I remember correctly.

I think--when the temperature gets back to around 70-degrees at noon-ish and when I have a little spare money--I'll take a walk through one of the 'neighborhoods' nearby and stop at the first garage sale I see.
I remember when I lived in a suburb (about 20 minutes' drive from where I live now) there weren't any businesses an easy-walk away, so garage sales were the only thing one could do with one's money (if one was too young to drive).

I love garage sales, but only if I have money to spend.. as for being successful, NO!!! I am not successful when I have one, my best was this last time and I only made about 14.00 and that was only because I did have a stereo to sell. If you have big ticket items or things that are really popular, you will do well, but if you have not many big and interesting items, you may not, but I'd go ahead and do it, try to earn some money, then donate the rest..

I have a friend who's still into garage sales. A few years ago, we were both into weekend garage sales. We would drive into different neighborhoods and find garage sales. After a while, I got tired of it. He still goes. He finds great things, and he even sends his finds overseas!

I think people LOVE garage sales--they think they are getting a bargain! I have done very well with garage sales, but they are a lot of work, so be prepared. The best time to have them is usually a Saturday morning into early afternoon. And no matter how early you start it, there will be people who show up earlier hoping to get a "steal." Good luck!

I guess you can have a garage sales if you don't really needed those stuffs.
I like going into garage sales cause there are lots of things to see and buy that are really in cheaper price.Garage sales really offers nice stuff that are really in good condition at lower price.I do hope that you will have a successful garage sale if you give it a try.

I would love to but we live in a really small community and nothing much goes on here let alone garage sales. I love them though and I love markets too but the ones around here are too far away...except for the new one in the next town. It's only on every 2 months but that's OK.
I'd have one if I were you but call it a driveway sale or something different to attract attention. It's a great way to get rid of accumulated stuff or stuff you don't need and you get some cash as well. It's a win/win situation.

I'd love to have a garage sale, but I live in an apartment. And I don't think my dad would want me to use his yard. While it seems I have tons of stuff I could get rid of, it probably wouldn't be enough to tempt people to stop. I have tons of books. I would like to go to some garage sales, but don't often have much cash available.

I believe people are becoming more frugal in today's day and age. They will look at garage sales, resale shops and charity stores, for something used, before they will go to the big package stores and buy it new. That is, especially if it is a big ticket item. My brother even tells me about deals he's gotten at garage sale.
My mother always wants to go 'garage saling', as she calls it, when she comes to visit us. She was in the area a couple of weeks ago, and I believe she said she went to over 100 in 9 days. She always goes home with a car full of stuff in which she gets a good deal. Then she takes it to the flea market, and resales it.
So, yes, have your garage sale. If possible, have it on a holiday weekend when there are a lot of people coming from out of town or when your community has a neighborhood sale.
Good luck to you Stephanie!

Garage sales are a tradition in this part of Texas. I believe the best are the church rummage sales and the community sales. The city requires a permit for garage sale, which may eat up any profit an individual al might make. However, a group permit can be purchased at a slightly higher price than that for an individual. Whole subdivisions get together on a certain Saturday, usually in the spring, and everyone who is interested puts out however much or little they have for sale on that day . The gated communities leave their gates open for shoppers. One subdivision prints up a map showing shoppers where the houses who have stuff for sale are located. I love garage sales. It is especially good for low income families with small children. There are always lots and lots of baby and toddler clothes and toys for sale.

I have never had a garage sale. I've been to some in the past but not within the past few years. I usually sell my stuff on eBay although I have a lot of stuff and one day may have a garage sale. I think you should have one. They seem like a fun thing (in terms of meeting and talking to people, since I just about live on the computer and need to get out more) to do.

I do not have experience hosting a garage sale. I haven't been to one either.
Whether or not you should host one, depends on few factors. What kind of neighborhood are you living in? Do others occasionally hold a garage sale? Are the people in your community isolated with one another (this is the same as asking what kind of neighborhood you are living in)?
Maybe you should ask friends and family. Or ask people that have experience hosting one.

Go ahead and have one, you'd be surprise at the amount of people that turns up. We have them here all the time and people makes lots of cash from their odds and ends.
I do go to garage sales, as I love to see what people have that I can buy, plus as an added bonus, its cheaper than buying new.

My grandma and mom used to be the garage sale experts. My daughter and i go to garage sale sometimes. I dont have a car right now so its kind of difficult to go alone. The place im living doesnt allow us to have garage sale either. If they didnt i would be having them. My daughter had a garage sale a couple weeks ago. I say have one. The ones i had in the past usually produced more money than i expected. One mans junk is anothers prize.

I much prefer going to one than having one! Although I really like the idea of getting rid of junk.
Good luck with your sale!

I think you should have a garage sale, I don't feel like having them anymore but I used to and I always loved it and made at least a hundred dollars each time usually. My dad just asked me the other day if we should have one this year but I'm not into it because I don't have that many things to sell anymore. When I was younger I really loved it and had a great time, I made it a huge build up exciting event. Then the last few years I still enjoyed it, why not sell things you don't need anymore, I think its a great way to do that. In my case neighbors would always come over and buy some things too.
