Thursday night music in the park

It's June! Time for 'music in the park'. My granddaughter and I love going to this. Every Thursday evening from 6:30pm - 10pm people gather in the park to sit and/or dance to a live band. Families, friends, neighbors enjoy visiting with each other and listening to the music.
Each Thursday is a different music genre- rock, country, jazz, blues, etc. There are usually a few vendors so we can have refreshments, or we can bring our own. They don't allow pets, although some people ignore this rule and bring theirs anyway.
Actually, there's something going on in the park on Thursday evenings in the months of June, July, and August. Then in September we have the "Swamp Fox Festival" for a weekend from Thursday - Sunday. The festival is named after our town's WWI brigade 'Swamp Fox'.
The park is only a few blocks from our house so we always walk. Since we live so close, people from farther away park their cars on our street and other streets that are close to the park. We don't mind since it's only once a week through the summer. It's a fun time!

Oh that does sound like a good time. We have a thing here called "Picking in the Park" on Thursday evenings. Local musicians gather there and play. It's not an organized event but it is pretty nice. My b/f likes to meet up with his friends there and play sometimes.

We really enjoy going. So many events cost to get in anymore, so it's nice to go to these and not have to pay.
JenInTN - is your b/f in a band? What does he play? That's interesting that yours is also on Thursday evenings! Do a lot of people attend? It can get kinda crowded here, but still fun.

He's not in a band...he is more solo. He can sing and plays anything with strings..lol. He has a guy he plays with all the time but they aren't a band. There are a lot of people that go and they usually crowd together depending on the genre they play. My b/f plays all kinds of music but has a special love for older country.
The park here that started it on Thursday evenings has done it for a couple of years but recently another park in the area started doing it too.

Jen - Our park is in the downtown area (very small downtown) and the retailers benefit some from the traffic. Are either of the parks in your town near stores?

Here every first sunday of a month, we have music night in a club in my city town hall, though i don't go every month, i do go at times and enjoy it..
