I think you should. Seaweed has got a light fishy flavor and, depending on how it's done might be a bit salty, but really its like dried out lettuce that you put tuna on. I love seaweed salads! or just adding it to a plain old salad is super yummy too because it adds a bit more flavor and it has a lot of good nutrients that normal iceburg lettuce doesn't have. My hubby doesn't like to eat it straight like I do, but a little bit shreaded into white rice and he won't add the fattening butter and salt to it because it has enough flavor with just the healthy seaweed. :D Never be afraid to try new things, you don't know what you could be missing and if you don't like it you never have to try it again!

Yes, it does have a fishy flavor! I didn't want to say that because it doesn't sound logical somehow. But it's true. Canned seaweed is definitely not "dried out lettuce". It comes in many kinds, colors and textures.

Oh YEAh, DUH! I forgot about canned, I never use the stuff. All I use is the freeze dried from my local international mart. I like dark seaweed, the darker the better, because it seems to have better flavor, or at least it does to me. I've never seen it (the freeze dried) in any other color than green and green/black. Does the colors affect the flavor, or how you use them?

I eat seaweed but I have a trick to handle the taste. Peter you are absolutely right, it does taste fishy. It does after all come from a sea full of fish ha ha. I wonder if there is any plant that people eat from the ocean that doesn't. I tried and I could not stomach the salty fishy taste. I nearly gagged. Anyway, I hate the taste of fish but I sometimes grab a bag of dried seaweed from whole foods health supermarket. Seaweed is supposedly full of nutrients and good for your skin. I buy empty gelatin capsules and stuff it in those so I do not have to taste it.

Oh! I really like to eat seaweeds. I will be driving, using a motorcycle next month, for around two hours just to go to a place near a seashore so that I can eat fresh seaweeds...

If I am made to choose between a lettuce and a seaweed... I will surely choose seaweed!

I would try it for sure but not from your friend. How did he get it into your country because he certainly wouldn't have been able to get it into ours and he would have been fined as well for trying. I believe it's quite tasty and not full of dirty salt water or sand as some people expect. There is edible seaweed and non-edible seaweed, just as some plants are food plants and other are not.

I also haven't eaten seaweed alone but why don't you give it a try? I heard that seaweed is a good antioxidant. If you didn't like the taste then you can just use it for making sushi or maki.

It is up to you my friend, seaweeds are very nutritious food and you receive great healthy benefits eating seaweeds once in a while. I think most seaweeds have very high protein content. I like eating seaweeds with onions and other spices especially putting with vinegar. You should try a bit, but if you feel that you are allergic to seaweeds then don't eat.

It is lucky then that you are not allergic to seaweeds. I have not tried eating seaweeds soup because I am getting used eating steamed seaweeds with white vinegar and chopped onions. Where I combined it with brown or white rice for lunch.

It tastes a little like slimy spinach to me, and it's about as healthy for you. The way I see it, it's not super tasty, but it's certainly not going to hurt either. Give it a try! You might be surprised and find that you like it. Or if not, then you've lost nothing and only reaped the health benefits.

Other people say it is salty and tastes like spinach or cabbage. Keep hearing how good seaweed is,too! Still am debating if I should try it not! I think I wanted to know more about before I do it!

Roasted seaweed is tasty - Roasted seaweed is tasty. It is a popular snack in South East Asian countries.
Seaweed is one of the nature's wonder food with its minerals and nutrients. Of cause as far as food is concerned, it is also taste related about whether anyone wants to eat something. It is a good food does not mean it is to everyone's liking. But if you have never tried seaweed, there is really no harm to try. I think the type of seaweed that your friend brought to you is the one that was roasted and lighted salted. It is a popular snack here in Malaysia too. But again, it is a personal choice. Some people are more adventurous than others.

Hello blue65packer, Chinese people put seaweed around sushi, as I am sure you already know this! Seaweed is also a vegetable and has a lot of minerals. It has iron, calcium and B vitamins too. It is said that seaweed is very good for your health. I also like the taste of it with rice. I think you should try it as long as you know it's clean and fresh. You should ask your friends these questions. Seaweed is a very healthy choice, in my opinion.

I know seaweed is use to wrap sushi. I won't eat sushi because of the raw fish! I also don't like lobster and crab which some sushi is made with. I keep hearing seaweed is very good for you will all the vitamins and such! Maybe I will try or not!

Seaweed can be given a try but caution must be given to it. I know in Countries like Korea and China and Japanese, they consume it a lot. But if are not sure and wonder how the taste might be to you, may you push it over to next person. I assume it is very nutritious as I know very little about it. It has low calorie and fat and minerals. Anyway I recommend you to give it a try.

Depends. If you don't like salty, fishy or seaish things I don't think it would be a good idea even though it's always worth a taste, you should always atleast try to taste on food you've never tasted before. You never know if you will like it or not!

Sometimes I found that the foreigners do have a big difference of the food between us. I like eating seaweed. No matter it is the snake like your attached photo or the seaweed soup, I all like it. It tastes well and it is also healthy. I heard that it can also clean up the poison elements from your body. It is nothing wrong to try it. I like tasting new food and I like trying foreign food. I love China

Hi: You should be careful in eating new food especially seaweeds for they could bring about allergies or digestion problems leading to upset stomach. I have been eating seaweeds, cooked, blanched or raw and sometimes I can still get difficulty keeping it down. Maybe it is the improper way of cooking, some microorganism in it but I just love it so I keep on coming for more. Otherwise, seaweeds are ok, they're good source of iodine, a good anti-cancer for the thyroid glands.

I love eating sushi and sushi wraps are made of seaweeds. Its crispy and salty, Thats all I can say about it. I like eating it as sushi wrap or snacking it on its own. Its like a fried fish's skin. Thats how it tasted to me. Its rich and iodine. Vegans put it in the food processor with tofu, and garlic and and make "crab cakes"out of it. it is worth trying if you dont mind eating something salty.
