If you had your own travel agency, which niche or speciality would you choose?

I would choose a travel agency that arranges trips to the less popular countries that most travel agencies skip. I got that idea when I visited the website of a travel agency that arranges trip to Papua New Guinea and some the other less popular destinations. I don't think that it would be posssible to offer trips to every country in the world, because there are some countries where the safety situation and the visa requirements make travelling very difficult, but I would like to add as many countries as possible and I would include some of the countries that most travel agencies don't include. In the package tours I would add some meetings with the locals and maybe some add some homestays instead of arranging trips where the tourists only visit the famous sights. My friend once went on a package tour where they visited many local places kindergartens and orphanages and small villages and I would to arrange that kind of trips. What kind of trips would you arrange if you had to your own travel agency? Why?

Hmm, photo trips to big sporting events maybe. Possibility to get places where you can get good shots, room for your camera equipment, help with getting the necessary permissions depending on what you want to use the pictures for, transport if the event is held in different areas. Maybe combine sports photography with some other photography.

That is a different idea, I haven't heard about other travel agencies that specialize in that kind of trips. I like the idea about travel agencies that find their own niche, because so many travel agencies focus on the same kinds of trips. (trips where you only visit the popular places and only visit the famous sights) If I had my own travel agency I would also find a niche and I would arrange trips where people got the chance to visit some of the smaller and less wellknown places.

My friend is also going to see some of competions but I don't think that she is going to take pictures, she just wants to watch the competitions. Yes, it is probably easier for the travel agencies to stick to the big and wellknown destinations, but I think that some of the smaller places have many things to offer as well. I would specialize in some of the less wellknown places if I had my own travel agency. In Denmark many tourists only visit Copenhagen and I think that is a pity, because there are many other nice places. I have lived in the peninsula (Jutland) for many years and some of my favourite places are Skagen in the very north of Denmark, Silkeborg and Skanderborg in the central part of Jutland and Soenderborg in the southern part of the Jutland. The islands close to Jutland for instanse Samsoe or Endelave are also nice. Today I live on an island called Langeland (between the peninsula and island where Copenhagen is) On my island I would recomend the towns Rudkoebing and Tranekaer. Another really nice place is the island Aaroe. In the town Aeroeskoebing, there are some charming streets with many old houses. Some of the houses are from around 1600 and a visit there is like a visit to the past

I think the reason why I thought of it is that is a travel agency I would consider using myself :-) I'm going to see part of the equestrian competitions at the Olympics this summer, and I'm quite curious as to what kind of camera you can bring as a regular visitor. I'd love to go there as a photographer, but I'm not that professional. Yet :-) There's many more Olympic games to come :-) I also often prefer less crowded and smaller places, I think maybe one reason why many travel agencies stick to the bigger, well-known tourist spots is that it's more work to get started with the smaller places. You can probably come up with better, cheaper offers after you've done the "surveillance", but you have to check more yourself. Hotels, sights, food, transport etc. Do you have some ideas in Denmark? I've been on a holiday there once but as a child, I should go back at some point as it's more or less just around the corner (or over a mountain and some water). I've seen quite a lot of Finland but nearly nothing of Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

If I could have my own travel agency, I would let people visit all the beautiful islands of the world. Why? Simply because I love the beach, the tropical weather (especially the sunshine), and there is so much to do on an island! You can relax and sleep on the beach, go snorkeling or scuba diving, kayaking, rock climbing, bungee jumping, swimming, hiking, visit waterfalls, visit natives and learn about their culture, and so much more. It appeals to both people's adventurous side and the relaxing vacation side. I guess this stems from my amazing experiences in Hawaii and Fiji, which, while both island destinations, offered very different experiences. Hawaii was the typical tourist experience - the beach, luau, aquarium, shopping, swimming with sharks, snorkeling, etc while Fiji offered a more authentic experience - living in a native village for a week, staying at a private island, scuba diving, etc. And of course, like I said before, my love for beaches and tropical weather.

@Torunn: You're the first! Where do you find such islands? @Porcospino: That's at least one potential customer! Yeah and many of them are unknown too! I've visited one in my country as well but it really isn't my type of place. But there was a Korean TV variety show that takes a group of six guys all around Korea, visiting and showcasing some of the hidden treasures, and many were islands that I'd actually like to visit! Yes, I don't think I've met a person that had a bad experience in Hawaii! You definitely visit if you can. Fiji was an entire new experience and another must visit place as well. The natives are considered the nicest and happiest people on earth so if you ever get the chance, go live in their villages and experience the simple yet satisfying lifestyle.

I really like your idea about trips to the beautiful islands around the world. I love to visit islands and there are a lot of islands in the world that I would like to visit. I have visited quite a few islands in my own country, but the weather in my country never gets really hot and I would love to visit some of the islands with tropical weathter like you mentioned. I would like to spend time at beach, and maybe swim or go kayaking, but I would also like to explore the villages and just walk around on the island or explore the island by bike It was interesting to hear about your trips to Hawaii and Fiji. My cousin has been to Hawaii and she enjoyed her trip very much. I hope that I will also manage to visit Hawii one day in the future. I haven't been to Fiji, but I have read about the place and I have seen pictures from Fiji. It sounds like an interesting place to visit.

I also love islands, but I prefer them cold, windy and filled with birds :-)

If I had my own travel agent I would have home stays so people could mix with the local people, backpacker hostels and cheap guest houses. These prices would be low to medium. I would offer flights to all destinations in the world specializing in unusual destinations. My travel agent would therefore appeal to people wishing to get off the beaten track. I would some vacation options for vegetarians and vegans. The tours that I would offer would visit orphanages and small villages. The tours would be going to some places off the beaten track. The tour prices would be low and when possible the accommodation would be camping. I would have fun having such an unusual travel agency and would be pleased with myself getting the people to travel off the beaten track. I would be happy to make sure the environment is protected.

It sounds like we have some of the same ideas. I would also choose some unusual detinations. I got that idea when I visited the websites of different travel agencies, because I noticed that most of them focus on the same countries (the popular countries) There is nothing with visiting the popular places, but personally I love to visit places off the beaten track, and I would like to arrange that kind of trips. I would include as many unusual destinations as possible and I would give people the chance to visit those countries. I like your idea about visiting orphanages and small villages. You get a totally different picture of the country if you visit that kind of places instead of sticking to the famous sights that everyone visits.

If I have my own travel agency I will promote adventure tours where tourists will be able to go on adventure at their chosen destination. The adventure will depend on what place it will be. Like caving, water rafting, deep sea diving, etc. Of course, before offering these, I will try the adventures myself.=D

That sounds interesting. I think that many people are interested in that kind of active vacation and if you try it the difference activities yourself you will be able to advice people and help them choose the right activities. If you arrange bungy jumping or skydiving I will buy one of your tours Have you already tried some of the acitivies that you mentioned?

That sounds like a great idea. There are many people who want to travel but don't have much money to spend on a trip and it would be great to offer some cheap alternatives. I am not one of those people who stay in 5-star hotels when I travel. My income is limited so I look for budget accomodation and budget transportation. You can have a great vacation without spending a lot of money.
