I am now write diary at my PC as special folder. Formerly I wrote at a book and of course with pen at my fingers and now I am curious too if there are still a lot of peoples write their diary in a book. Even it was already in years I did not write any letter but use e-mails and other digital medium, and later I feel that my hand written is not as good as before, when still at high school my friends told that my hand written is beautiful. I wrote my mind usually if there was something touched my feeling and sometimes I was as if obsessed to write it (at my folder). about anything : religion, politics, family, economy, love etc. Sometimes my PC was infected then I loose my notes I wrote in years, that's a bit problem with digital diary ....

I keep a daily diary. Well... almost daily. I miss a few days from time to time, but for the most part I stick to it and I have since I was in middle school. I write in journals, and I don't think I could possibly switch to writing it on the computer. I just don't want to write that way, I've got to have a pen and paper when I'm writing my most intimate thoughts. I'm a bit of a journal-a-holic as well, I absolutely love finding those beautiful leather-bound or decorated journals. and I love to fill them up.

I love all kinds of journals, too, allyoftherain, and prefer to write with a fountain pen.

Well, it might have been because it was easier and more comfortable to you, Justinus. It's still a great way to keep a diary I suppose. I don't trust computers myself.
PageTurner, oh it's nice to meet someone else who likes journals. Where do you usually get yours? I've found some really pretty ones at Office Max, which really surprised me.

I like both. I find it a different process typing or writing by hand. Typing is fast and you can correct words. When you are done you have something more finished looking. Features like copy and paste are really handy.
I like writing because the words flow differently. Writing slows what I can put down and therefore my thoughts have lots of time to complete my thought. I am not in so much of a rush writing by hand.

This is to constantly remind me that i have to strive better and to improve. Also to appreciate life and do more good deeds as i feel good about it, and not being acknowledge. If these are being properly being tracked it does make very great beneficial on your part. Keep doing that. i have 5 diaries in my own time so far :)
Happy jotting of notes in your (digital) diary and keep on mylotting :)

Hello justinus
This is great! I bet that you'll have a lot of fun in the future when you read the stories that comprise your life.
I am rather erradic with journaling. I have a digital journal that I keep whose theme is that of my children. I have kept records of their daily doings and I have done this electronically. As you say, there are some problems with it, mainly making sure to have a back up. I print them out regularly and bind them in a notebook.
I also have a hand-written journal that is made up of my musings.
Finally, I keep another hand written journal that is where I put writing ideas.

It is a great reminder Justinus. Diary is actually getting lost in our days as people really use and carry it around. In phones, or any ICT gadgets, there are reminders for us, notes to write, to do list and so on, they making it to replace dairy in our days. The issue of PC, I think it is rarely use it as PC substitute. But as you said this are not reliable if a system crashes or formatted, all information is lost. The ICT gadgets cannot really be reliable as such. I think diary book is more better than them. I believe you can get your writing can come back if engage more into it than using the PC.

Oh, what a pity to loose them. But writing diaries on computer and on a book are quite different. Nowadays, people can't live without PC. Everytime I write down something on pc, I will collect it in another place and make sure it will not be deleted.

For years and years, off and on I kept a sort of journal, not about my life, but as you wrote ideas on religion, politics and what not.. Then they were lost or worse, too hard to read. Terrible penmanship!! So now I save my ideas on my netbook.. will they get lost? maybe, but no worse than before, and if something is reaLLy important I email it to myself and it's one of those free online email sites I can get to from another computer..

I have been writing my daily diary for years now and my daughter just gave me a small Moleskine notebook and it is fantastic! It is lined and spaces between lines are small, so a lot of information can fit in! There are also some with blank pages and those could be good for people who like to draw, make sketches, etc. This notebook would also be good to write notes to be added to my diary later on, or writing notes and reminders!

I do keep a diary but it's online... http://www.my-diary.org/... You can make it private or public... I've been doing it since December of 2003... It's just easier for me to refer back to certain dates if I wanted to... Nice thing about online diary is even if something happens to your computer, you'll always be able to access your diary from other computers... I usually write on mine from my iPad 2...

I remember how I started a diary when my aunt sent me one. I religiously wrote in it everyday, and then years later when I went away to college I appreciated the memories that were in there. I could remember everything as if I was actually back in high school, and everything I'd written seemed to happen just yesterday. (I even drew diagrams, or pictures of where I was or what exactly was happening). I've tried a few times back to start another diary, but I haven't been as successful as I was back then. But now, since I spend a lot of time in front of the computer or in front of my laptop, I maintain a blog. It's just like my diary, and I can log onto the Internet anytime I want to blog about something. The good thing is, even if my PC crashes, or my hard drive or motherboard melts down, I can still access it any time, anywhere. Also, since it's stored in the world wide web, I won't have to worry about losing my memories. :-) I'm able to revisit blogs that I've made years ago, probably over 2 decades ago, from the looks of things. It's amazing how technology can help us keep up with times. I love blogging a lot and if I'm not on myLot, I spend my time blogging. Since you're able to log into the Internet, why not try blogging? That way, if anything happens like your PC become infected, or something like that, you won't have to worry about losing anything you wrote because it's all saved in a blog! :D

It all depends for your love towards a pc or a diary. I mean virtual or real. Virtual one is time saving, but it doesn't really cherish those memories as good as a hand-written diary.
In your diary you can write stuff, draw silly pictures, highlight special memories, etc with your hands.
But to do so in a pc or laptop is really annoying. Computers are good for ebooks not for diaries.
I also had a kind of yearbook, to say, which I gave to my friends to fill out for me as memories. Today I read it and smile, those pictures, cute expressions, silly quotations and other stuff make me happy.

wow, you got some skills there, too bad i'am not like you. I'am too lazy to make my own diary. Just hope that this time always have a back up of your diary in a flash drive and be careful when surfing the net especially when downloading, who knows when and what will happen to your computer next time.

Keep up the good work. Sooner when you read it again you will just laugh on all crazy, memorable things you have done in the past. When I was 13, I always wrote something in my diary. Too bad I stopped writing when I turned 15. But when I am bored, I read my diary and It's really awesome how you pictured out who you we're in the past.
