In the page of revelation in the bible, there is this number '666' which the writer challenge the smartest among his readers to decipher it, so is anyone in Mylot is able to tell us what is that number means and give us some head up on the cryptical nature of holy scriptures often find inside the bible. Please explain in layman term so that every simple mind here can understand what is that you are trying to tell us and bring some light to this long lasting mystery. Hopefully we can find the smartest mind among the faithfuls in Mylot today. Will catch you all later, Mylotters! Have a nice day.

Let me be the first to put some serious effort into responding to this. The number of the beast is 666. In this day and age we do not generally use letters from our alphabet to represent numbers. Back then things were different. Both the Romans and the Greeks used letters to represent numbers. Ever had to learn to use Roman numerals in school? That's what I'm talking about. Basically that means you can "add" the letters in a name and come up with a total. Turns out the roman name Romulus adds up to 666. In Greek Lateinos also adds up to 666. At the time the book of Revelation was written the Christian church was being severely persecuted by the Roman Empire. This code is a very clear reference to the Roman Empire and the Roman Emperor. It has since been interpreted to mean a whole lot more but whole books can and have been written on the subject. This information is readily available through other sources on the Internet.

My apologies. I got my wires crossed the word I was looking for was Romiith which is Hebrew for the Roman kingdom. It does add up to 666.

So you are saying is 666 is a number refer to an emperor of a Roman Empire after Christ. He is the evil of all that will conquer and rule four corners of the world. I still can't see how is Romiith add with Roman Kingdom can come out with 666 except 19. It is a tough one. You must have your addition base on Roman numeric system; instead of metric system.

This number has always been related to Satan, although i have no idea why.
i even read some explanations why this number was treated as the number of Antichrist or the devil. But nothing made sense or really explained it.
I'll also just wait for the other responses here.

telmesh, preacher or pastor from local parish has got to be the guide or encyclopedia on all these questions his parishioners have, he needs to become the font of all knowledge out of Bible as he/she is the messenger of God words. If he can't decipher what's written inside the holy book of his religion, then no one is able to do so effectively. I assume it is his duty to learn that and acquire the knowledge in the book before he preach to his flock.

I can assure you many things mentioned in the revelation don't make sense, it is mainly myth for the followers at large, a lot of them are left for individual elder in the church to interprete, i assume it is how it is supposed to be, making you and me in the constant state of confusion and fuzziness.

In the Apostle's time the Hebrew letters of Romiith were known to add up to 666. Lateinos is not used in the Greek New Testament, where the word is Romaios. However, Irenaeus (pupil of Polycarp, who was a pupil of the Apostle John) suggests this word in his writings (which does not mean that he got it from Polycarp, or if he did, that Polycarp got it from the Apostle). The Greek numerals in Lateinos also add up to 666. Then imperial Rome fell, but out of its ruins arose the Roman Catholic Church and its Pope (like the Roman Emperor, in his successions) making increased claims. In 1701, Robert Fleming published The Rise and Fall of Papal Rome, showing, amongst other things, that the Latin numerals in the title VICARIVS FILII DEI, ascribed to the Pope in the Vatican-approved Donation of Constantine (now admitted by absolutely everyone to be a forgery, but Papal approval of a document, once given, can never be withdrawn - Infallibility and all that) also add up to 666. There are other words and phrases connected with the Pope, whose Latin numerals also add up to 666.
The Seventh Day Adventists are not fully Christian, but on the matter of the Pope they have done their homework well. A better source about the Pope, excluding considerations of 666, but majoring on 2Thessalonians 2, is Bishop Christopher Wordsworth's Is the Papacy predicted by St. Paul?.

Yes, it's a case of the pot calling the kettle black. But this particular pot does it very effectively. Also Robert Fleming predated the SDAs by over 100 years, and, whatever http://www.theotokos.co.za//adventism/bobsegw6.html may claim, the Papally-approved Donation of Constantine remains, because of Papal "Infallibility" and "unchangeability", to haunt Rome until Christ comes to destroy the Pope by the brightness of His coming.

I ran across a site the other day about how Greek letters are also uses as numbers. And if you have a word that the number-letter show up, you could add the numbers up and come up with a sum, i.e. 666. So there are many words in greek that can be add up 666.

Quite a long time ago I came across the theory that the roman numerals in use at the time, representing 1,5,10,50,100 & 500 added up to 666 and that was the code for emperor.. (more or less global..)

Yes it is an interesting idea.Unfortunately i`m not that smart so it`s not my idea but the idea some of the Fathers of the church shared in the past. They thought the number 7 is a divine number and a number symbolizing the absolute perfection. Then they thought the 6 might be the number symbolizing imperfection and 666 is the imperfection raised to extreme or a false trinity, and from the moral point of view a triune evil: evil reasoning, evil feelings, and evil will.

So far i only heard two plausible explanation on this number from Christians. Base on the ancient theological teaching, 666 is the number that represent three entities that will exist in the world before the time of great tribulation on earth will come. The first 6 represent the Beast, the second 6 represent the Anti-Christ and the third one refer to a false Prophet. All three will appear together during Armageddon to fulfill apocalypse prophecy.
The recent modrn day version of Church explanation is that it is the symbol of Anti-Christ, Satan has this number imprinted under the hair of his son. If you happen to know someone has 666 under his hair, you have got yourself the great destroyer of the world in front of you, it is time for you to contact your church elder on that information rather than remain quiet.
I don't know which one making sense, i have to leave that for you to decide. Thank for the head up.

I don't care.
In my Bible, it says "six-hundred, three-score & six." Who decided that 'score' was twenty?
Anyway, they say that is 'the mark of the beast' which the AntiChrist worships, the mark the AntiChrist forces everyone to accept upon their wrist or forehead if they want to be able to buy or sell.
I don't know if the AntiChrist- or the Beast-will be a person or a group or a technology or what, but I know that 'restriction to where only those with The Mark will be able to buy or sell' will work ...
... look at digital-phones (or whatever they're calling those little mobile gadgets nowadays). There are some bargains you can only get with coupons shown on your digital-phone. Those of us without digital-phones (including me ) do not have that 'power to buy or sell.'
(I could speculate from that condition that the AntiChrist and/or Beast is the Internet and/or the wireless-industry! )

Well, it could have meant that it is the number or code one need to agree to let the Satan stamp on their wrist, hand or even back of their head before they can travel freely or buy in the market. Like some kind of ID as the proof they are the disciples of Satan. That does make sense.

There's bound to be tons of imaginative speculation on 'why that exact number' etc., but that's not the point.
The point is that (Scripture says) the mark will be 'the name of the Beast or the number of his name.'
The people of G-d will be 'marked' too, by an angel.
But Jesus doesn't ask us to pay any attention to this stuff if it gets in the way of serving Him. He tells us to 'watch,' but that's more to guard against anything hindering our service than -to KNOW anything.
("Eye has not seen- Nor has ear heard what G-d has ready for those who love Him.")

May be it is an acceptable number /code for the Satan, like some form of marker/ID for his followers to align with each other affiliation toward their Satan master around the world. Like the case of personal passport to differentiate between people from different nations.

That does make some senses, the beast will bear the number on his forehead as a sign or name to make known to the world he is coming. I think the number is just like a name on a person, but in this case, it is for the beast, that is what it represented in the bible, instead of other explanation put forth by other responders, obviously by some responders, '666' can only be intrepreted through the use of Greek, Roman or Hebrew's alpha-numeric system to come out with the right answer, it is up for individual intrepretation. It may well turn out it actually has no meaning at all except is a number used by Satan to designate his many beasts.

http://home.mcn.net/~willfree/coincidence/reagan.htm, that website owner interpretation seem interesting with full of imagination. Gotta give him some credit for trying hard. I also doubt it means any microchip implanted in human body, it just make no sense if the words in revelation are to be taken literally. Some may claim it can only accurately decipher through some Hebrew or Greek alpha-numeric system in order to come out with the meaning.

I don't know what these numbers mean , about your response about 3 persons will be in the last days , that is true , they are as they appear : Almahdi , Antichrist , Jesus who will kill the Antichrist to show that he is not the God ( Antichrist will claim that is God )

I am sure it is difficult for someone to get rid of anti-christ. He will be powerful and well protected by many. I just don't know how is that possible for Jesus to kill the antichrist in a scenario mentioned by you. Anyway, thank for the head up and your new idea.
