Manners in public..

I live in a city where cars are the normal transportation system. I've only used the bus 2 or 3 times ever, living in this city. But in some other cities and countries, they have public transportation and they have rules and manners on there. Like in Japan, I heard that it's rude to put your make up on in the train and sometimes eating is looked down upon. If you use the public transportation system, do you think there should be rules like this or do you think people have to put up with this since it's public? Thoughts?

I think if make some rules then no one will follow it. One main rule is that the driver should not sleep while driving. I think in India no rule or manner of anyone. I think some rules should be follow like dont try to catch the bus when start..

There should be some rules and regulations on public transportation. I know here in NYC they have banned eating on the train. Mainly because of the rat population. But there should be more I think. I also think that the city should do their part and clean up the filth so that people feel better about taking the train. The busses are pretty cool though. They are kept pretty clean.

There is no eating on any of our buses and I agree with the rule. The bus drivers don't have time to clean all the trash that people would leave. Sadly, to many people don't pick up after themselves now. I believe people should thanks others when they help you and one young man gave up his seat, so I could sit the last time I rode the bus. The bus had so many people standing up holding on to a cord from the ceiling. It was so crowded that I'm glad we recently moved to a smaller city.

I think just being respectful is sufficient. i don't see why putting your make up on would be considered rude providing you are not bothering anyone. I'd quite welcome watching someone put on their make up on the morning train actually. It would be more interesting than looking at the back of someone's newpaper!

What about a couple make out in public, would it be a rude manner. What about answering a phone loudly since it is on the train, and someone else already engaged in a conversation, that could be rude. It really depends on how you see it at the moment of it. The rule is make up by us, human beings. We all have different opinion of it, and we all would judge each other.

For me, there should be no rules except no smoking. It's public transportation and everybody is welcome to ride but also be sensible enough to those who are non smokers.

I think that both these examples of rules are not really really anything serious. I think that rules should be ones that keep a place safe for all. If a person wants to put their make up on or catch a bite to eat it is sometimes just a matter of time and not so much rules. Manners is another thing too. And if it is something you thinks others may have a problem with you could always find a place away and do this there.

People putting on make-up or eating is not the biggest issues on public transportation. That is not because it is public after all! The only issues are the ones that someone else imposes of you. I live in city, Portland, Oregon (squidoo.com/portlandisweird)that is a very clean city. It is beautiful! It also has a light rail system and buses and streetcars and a LOT of people who can not wait to get more of my money for more of this. The ridership is less than 2.5% of the commuting population but that does not mean anything! Eating on the bus or light rail line? No problem unless I am sitting next to you and it ends up in my lap! Common curtisy is the answer to all of these questions and the Nanny State does not have to get to all of the nitty gritty.

well my friend i think there is no need for any rules... people should act upon their senses because its after all the public....well there are exception cases where everyone eats and makeups in the public then our action will not become a violation.
