Well, I am currently entering my last year of study in a local University in about three months to come. It has always been my dream to have an Alienware laptop or something similar as I like to do a lot of heavy gaming with some of the latest title such as Call of Duty black ops, to be released GTA 5, StarCraft II, Mount and Blade etc. However, I have been thinking that I can also save that 2000 dollars for better use after I graduate. Such as first payment for a vehicle etc.
I know that 2000 dollars may not be much when I finished my study. So I still have a strong urge to purchase an Alienware laptop with good processors and graphics. What do you think?

Hello squallming
Like you, I also wanted the Alienware laptop. I went to the computer store thinking that I was going to buy the Alienware laptop. I liked so much about it. But after I got there and discovered the price (as well that it is now owned by Dell, who I can't stand) compared to other computers that could do a lot of what I needed for a heck of a lot less money, I decided not to get the Alienware laptop and let my money go a lot further.

My suggestion is you invest the $2000. I mean, make it work for you. The interest or return of your money will be the amount you will use to buy your laptop while you still have your $2k. Now, how does that sound?

That is also correct. Aside from that, the wait could really test one's patience. Believe me I know the feeling. It's killing me but I have to be disciplined enough to wait for the return of my money. You see, I can't expect my father to buy me a Cintiq .21 ux (Wacom drawing tablet). The last time I asked him for it (or for anything since I will never ask him for anything ever again), I ended up feeling down because his words insulted me and looked down upon my skills.
There's also the difference between the money that I and the one who created this discussion may very well lose. The money I invested is $115 compared to his $2000. Maybe if he can just invest a little bit from the $2k and wait for it to reach the same amount as $2k, there won't be much any harm.
As for investment, well, yeah, there are risks...even putting your money in savings account there is still risk. Or you can save it now and lose it later too to some phenomenon or emergencies. But if I were to have any choice, I'd rather invest my money than lose it while I haven't made it work for me yet.

Hello, squallming. I think that using that for a car would be a better choice because with that you can get a good job and wait for a month and get a great computer.
If it is a really good job you may not have to wait as long. That is my suggestion, but it is really up to you. I think that with you being fresh out of college, it is best to focus on your future.
That is my opinion.

Try to purchase and decide the things that is more useful for you at the moment then everything will just follows. Always remember, that sometimes in our life we can'T have it all at the same time.
but when i read what you have written, it seems that you already make up your mind!

If I were you, I would not go mainly for the brand. What more important is the specifications. I'm sure you will find other laptop brands with similar specs as Alienware but a lot cheaper. That would be a smarter decision. Good luck!

hello mate.Since you are graduating,I suggest you to save this money for immediate requirements like a vehicle or a house rent etc. After you graduate, you will join a job and you will be handsomely paid after which you can get your dream laptop for playing.Since after you have joined a job,you wont have much time to play, don't waste your money for a gaming laptop now.Besides save them now so that after you have gained some bucks,go for higher configuration with the money from your earning.

Hi,
If i were in your shoes, i will buy a laptop around 800-900 usd only. The remaining, i should use for the others things such as, living fee when i go to find a job, clothes for going to work later,etc...
We don't need to buy expensive laptop for playing games, it is good for relax sometime, but it takes much time also.
However, all is your decision. I wish you all the best..

hi squallming.well,it sounds very hard for you to make decision.maybe you already got the answer.i think you should think it twice and then make a final decision.you can ask yourself why you want to buy it and is that really worthwhile.the great point is that you will be not regret to make such a decision!!!

I just wanna tell you that I had a sum of money when I was in college, and I just used all of it to bought things I want. And after I graduated from my college and have a work to earn money by myself, every time when I need money urgently that I don't have enough money, I'm so regratful that I used up the money.

i would think go for it, for the fact it is your desire.but also remember this, in 6 months to 1 year time, that laptop will be considered obsolete and old and also there'll be a few more alienware newest model etc.
if i were you i would rather get an alienware DESKTOP customize by myself although it will be pricier that way...but is wayyyyy more satisfying..almost like building your own custom desktop..
im guessing you wanted to buy m17x??

I think you should go buy that one. You have the right to be happy man. You can just earn more money after you graduate. And also, alienware laptops are cool. My classmate have one and I always want to have one too. Simply amazing but again, after a few months or a year of use. Another laptops are released by their companies.

If you really like that laptop you should buy it but ofcourse check first the specifications of that laptop because if you like to play games with a high specs needed, I suggest you buy a laptop with a high graphics card. If you buy a laptop with a low graphics card, you will not enjoy playing starcraft2 because it will be laggy and slow. I recommend you to buy PC gaming desktop rather than laptop. ^^ and you also include a Razer set for your desktop. Trust me you'll gonna love the setup for your games.
for laptops:
MSI for gaming - the best! with full keyboard keys including Number keys on the side just like a normal keyboard so that you will not get irritated when you play SC2 ^^

It all depends. How badly do you need and or want this dream laptop? It is really going to be useful to you in your job endeavors? Do you really want this laptop? If that answer is yes, then now might be a good time to get it if you can.

hello squallming, it sounds by your post that you already
know the best answer to that question...don't spend money
on something that your just want instead of saving it for
something that you will eventually need...
I am sure you will make the bestt decision...be wise and
not foolish...
Good luck in your studies.....

It is always good to reward ourselves, this may push us to do better in whatever endeavor we are in. And especially that you are entering your last year in school, you need something that relaxes you, provided that it does not interfere with your studies. But if you have limited money or resources to enroll on your last year or you have no benefactor that will shoulder your school's expenses, better defer your urge of buying that high end laptop. It is always a better idea to save for the rainy days. Good luck in your choice.

If you're looking for an epic laptop, I don't entirely recommend something made by Alienware. Although they have awesome skins, their pricing is way too overpriced. There are likely to be laptops that have the same specs as the Alienware laptop you're thinking of for a lower price.
Try searching for a better price before going directly to Alienware. Hope this helps.
