Hotel Pensylvania (PA6-5000) NYC

Canada

Has anyone on here ever stayed in the Hotel Pensylvania? I have been invited to join a friend of mine in NYC for an afternoon. She's in CT and will come into the city for the day, but I am in Ontario Canada, and since it involves a border crossing, and I have never been to NYC before, I'd like to spend a night there, maybe see the Empire State building, and ge some I Love NY stuff to take home. the Hotel Pensylvania was made famous when the Glenn Miller orchestra recorded their song "Pensylvania 6-5000" which also happens to be the phone number of the hotel. A very easy number to remember, because of that song. Not only would it be interesting to stay there because of the history, it also appears to be in my price range. Checked out the Roosevelt, and the Waldorf Astoria, and they all wanted twice as much for a nice, than he PA6-5000. YIKES!! So, anyone ever stayed there? How did you like it?

About $150 USD a night, but by NYC Standards, that's cheap!

It's about what we paid for the Delta in Montreal for a few nights, maybe a little less. I had gift cards, and it only cost us about $70 on top of that. Great deal! I also have a great travel agent!

I have not been so fortunate as to spend time in NYC. With the history of the hotel Pennsylvania I think it would be very interesting, and the price savings seem excellent. This sounds like a fun getaway for you.

Have you lost it, or did it expire? Whatever, I hope you get it fixed up in time to go.

I stayed there summer 2005. The rooms weren't great. We had two rooms for our group and one had some nasty looking spots on the sheets and blankets. That said, it's not super terrible and the location is really great. You're about 15 blocks from the center of Time's Square and right next to Penn Station. The Waldorf is a very, very fancy hotel is not remotely budget friendly. As long as you aren't expecting much, the hotel is fine.

Unfortunately for the price of a rom at PA6-5000, I could get a really nice room at the 2nd fanciest hotel in Toronto! LOL When I looked at the websites, the rooms were not as fancy as I'm used to, but then I'd need three times more money to get what I'm used to in NYC. I'm glad you've stayed there, and could share your experiences. I'm only going to be in NYC for about 24 hours anyway. Get an early flight in, meet a friend of mine, go be in the audience to see "Anderson" (Anderson Cooper's talk show) lunch and a casino that day, and she'll go back to CT, and I'll check out the Empire State building. Next morning back home, whatever time the flight is. I'm so glad I can fly to NYC on Air Canada fir $99!!! That's pretty flippin' awesome!!! Also, I can get lots and lots and lots and... of photos, and make money from the experience. :) I'm Canadian, but my man's American, and I lived in the USA for a year. I still have my American bank account, so I don't have to worry about travelers checks, etc.
