How much do you depend on microwave?

It has become one appliance that everyone uses regularly. To some it is a must and cannot function without it. It does everything from quick thawing, warming up food, and even cooking a whole dish.
Others use it infrequently, perhaps mostly for health safety issues. They only use it maybe if they are pressed with time. For instance, they would prefer to defrost meat in room temperature if they have the time to plan ahead.
Even more so, there are others who do not use microwave at all for one reason or another. Maybe they simply do not have one; yet they are able to function quite nicely without it. They just do not rely at all on this thing called microwave.
So, which category of microwave dependency do you belong to?

I personally try to avoid using microwaves at all costs. It's bad enough that I have to use them to cook other people's food at work all day, I don't need to be exposing myself to more radiation from microwaves when I decide to eat some food. Overall microwaves are bad for you and your food doesn't taste as good being heated up in the microwave versus being heated up in a different way.
I'll do anything I can to try and avoid using a microwaves but unfortunately somethings the only way to warm them is to use the microwave. Mostly though I'll heat up soups and liquidy stuff on the stove and other things in the oven.

I'd imagine things that can only be warmed using a microwave would be some type of TV dinners or ready-to-eat microwavable quick frozen dinner boxes. Those things really are suitable for microwave users life style. For those who prefer to avoid such non homemade food would do quite well without having to use microwave at all.

I actually don't have a microwave and does not intend to buy one. I read that this is not a healthy way of cooking food so whether it is true or not I'd rather be on the safe side. I can anyway survive even without a microwave so what is the use of buying one. My policy has always been this: if in doubt, don't.

In general, I use the microwave oven to heat my lunch. This is the basic usage I will use in my working day. Besides it, I like to cook some food like potatoes because using the microwave oven can cook them well in a short time. I like to take advantage of it.

I use the microwave a lot. I despise cooking so I rely on frozen foods and other quick to prepare dishes. Whether I'm heating up almond milk for my cereal, a frozen entree or leftovers someone else cooked, I use it at least once a day.
Probably the only other kitchen appliance I use more is the toaster oven, also for frozen foods

Well I had one like two years ago but actually I didn't used it a lot. Well sometimes I just warm my food or cook something. Well I also used it to make popcorns often. Well one day it broke down and till now I don't need one. Well like you pointed it is mostly used for fast cook or just to warp up something.

It's more of a convenience rather than a necessity to own one for many people. Once you have one, you might find it easier and faster to heat up or prepare food.
Then it's become a habit for some to use it, and they may not want to go back without having one.

If I did not have a microwave then I would survive perfectly well without one because they did not exist during a large portion of my lifetime. However, I would certainly the benefits of having a microwave and if my current one developed a problem I would replace it within a week.
A microwave can be extremely useful and versatile, so it contributes to the bulk of my cooking. I know that many people only consider them practical for quick heating, but when I first bought one I made a point of trying it for most foods. I have many items from a simple stew to cakes in my microwave in the past.
Many products soon become an integral part of someone's life, such as DVD players, smart televisions or mobile phones, none of which existed when I was young.

i have no microwave, but i think it's convenient, especially the defrost and quickly warm up function. it's said microwave would endanger health, but it's not the major reason i don't buy one. coz we already have 1 steaming pot which can replace microwave. by steaming we can warm up food, just not as fast as microwave does. if i become rich, for convenience, definitely i'll buy one.

I donĀ“t use my microwave at all, except for using it as a clock at the kitchen. My daughters heat their coffee sometimes when they visit. I bought it a long time ago, when my husband was alive, because he did not have the same hours each day to come home from work and many times his diner had to bwe heated. But I cook in my gas stove and bake and roast in an electric oven.

You're going through older discussions again, aren't you?
I agree that microwave is not really a necessity. I think what prompted me to start this discussion was when a friend told me months ago how she was required to provide a microwave in an apartment she was renting. That's a bit too much, in my opinion...

Hi, i could not live without a microwave. It has really save alot of time and dishes.
I could just have ready made food at few seconds of heating up. The microwave i have can even bake cookies with just one touch button infact i use almost everything for cooking with my microwave

I have a microwave oven in home but I don't just use it at all the time. One of the main reason I just avoid it is it rises my bill. I have gas stow in my home and I just used to make use of it at most of the times.

I am one of those belong to the low or non dependent to microwave. At my mother's place several years back, she has a microwave and she asked me to heat the overnight rice with it. When I left her place and study in the university, I never used microwave anymore. Now I am at my dad's house and again we are not using microwave at all. I have no idea what effects a microwave may have but I am living without it.

It's good that you are not depending much on microwave... Its convenience and time-saving features seem attractive to those who prefer instant food preparation. But if we can still prepare food timely and without too much hassle even without the help of a microwave, then I think that is even much better.

Microwave is important for me now especially in preparing meals faster for me. As i've been in bodybuilding, it's important i have my meals according to time around 5 to 6 times a day. All small meals. I would pre-cook my meals until it is almost 100% cooked, and when at the office i would just heat it up using microwave.

Microwave dependency, terrible, my apologies if i may offend anyone for which i don't really mean to. My take is that, gone are days of all things fresh. You go to a farm fresh market, buy really fresh produce & cook them really fresh. I grew up with my mom doing all the cooking and all are bought directly on a farm fresh market produce. One day, my siblings gave her a microwave as sort of a gift, oh how happy she was then we realized what she was doing with it, she uses it as a safe storage for leftovers safe from ants, roaches or maybe rats she explains. Will she use it for cooking? she only gave us a stern look and responded why would she do that in a tone I fully remember as a 10 year old when we're about to be "sermoned" for not thinking practically, apparently she reasoned that it would only increase her utility bill and she cant see clearly what's going on inside (when she gave it a try in the beginning), she can't smell the food and it's a lazy machine she related. I love my mom, microwave? not high on my list for appliance need.

I can certainly understand your mom's point of view. It is really more utilized by those who do not have much time to cook or do not enjoy cooking that much.
I use microwave to defrost or warm up food for few minutes. Most of the time mine also store bread or similar items for same reasons as your mom's.

If there weren't a microwave already in this place, I wouldn't have one. When we moved from our last place, I had discarded the microwave I had. I do use the one that came with this place some, since it is here. However, I really am not fond of microwaves.

They really are not such a necessity, aren't they? That's why I was somewhat surprised (and inspired to start this topic) when I learned from a friend that she needed to provide a microwave in her apartment that she had for rent.
I can understand if a stove is a must to provide for tenants; but surely not microwave, right?

We use microwave for few items only as most of our items cannot be cooked in it. But we use it for items like heating, boiling and grilling mostly. Rest of our cooking is done in traditional ways. But some times while we are in a hurry we use it for saving time. Although I can not see life would be easy without it.

We do not have a micro wave. It is not our necessity. Sometimes we feel definitely to have one because of delicious dishes like cake, pizza, stuffed food, grilled items. But we are not fond of it a much and whenever required these items can buy from market We have a toaster which serves our needs.
