Why is it that people are more willing to spend more money on their pets health care vs. their own?

Well yeah there are lots of people who do that. I actually don't know why but I think that this is something that they really love like loving a person and want them to be fine. However I think that we have to carry first about us than for others.

Well I'm in the same thinking like you. I have lots of pets in my house. Actually 2 cats and 2 dogs(well my house is big and have place for everyone) which I really love and I also can't imagine letting them suffer for anything. Well there are people who don't respect the animals and let them suffer without helping them. I hope that one day they would need help but someone will let him to handle it alone to see what they do to the animals!

Absolutely right dob, you are a good person. I'm glad to see there are people like you in the world that wouldn't let their pets suffer. See the problem is, I don't associate with people like this in real life so it is very hard for me to understand it. For example, I have never walked into a persons house where an animal is suffering and the person told me they weren't going to do anything about it for one reason or another. You just don't come across this kind of thing in real everyday life and it seems like the only ones that do it, admit in only in anonymous anonymity on the internet.

For me there is no first there is just and as in myself, my family and my pets. When you adopt a pet you are taking on the responsibility to care for another creatures life and wellness. It just baffles me that there are people whom, when their pet is suffering do nothing. For example, when my cat had a urinary infection I immediately took her to the vet and was very stressed out even in the waiting room because I knew how much pain she was in as I myself have had these infections. I could not imagine letting her suffer for days and also put her life at risk. I was a wreck until she got her pain shot. The bill was a lousy hundred bucks to make a creature I love feel better. Priceless. For those who live paycheck to paycheck with no savings they need to start putting away an emergency pet fund. I would pick up cans on the side of the road if I needed to to do this. I don't quite understand why some feel their pet is never going to get sick and are surprised when they do. They are living creatures just like us. I do know many veterinarians also have payment plans as well.

I imagine you are thinking of a particular situation? I imagine there are people like this. Then I know of the other extreme as well. The ones who let their pet's suffer pitifully because they do not have the money or do not want to spend the money on a vet visit. The ones that come on the internet asking strangers what is wrong with their pet particularly annoy me. I see this far more. Many times, and there isn't enough space to give all the health emergencies we have had over the years. But many times I have been in a vets office and when the vet asked us how long this has been going on we usually say it started or we noticed it an hour or a few hours ago not days or weeks. The veterinarian usually then tells us how proud he is of us that we are responsible pet owners and some people let problems go way too long. In my life off of the internet I know of no one who does not have health insurance. And many including myself have pet policies though I have shelled out thousands over the years happily.

No I am not thnking of anything of particular. I actually made this post because of an article I read in the newspaper. It stated the most people who have animals will put their animals health care before their own. And it stated that along with that, they will spend up to 10,000 dollars more as well. Being a pet owner myself, I know what it means to oove your pet; but your pet depends on you for everything. If your not alive and healthy, then who will be there to make sure that they are alive and healthy?

I think in many of those articles they mostly are talking about when an animal has cancer. Some people will spend a ton on costly treatments that are not guaranteed. I had a cat with jaw cancer and the vet said he could cut the tumor out but that he would have to be fed with a tube for the rest of his life and the operation would put him in a lot of pain for an undetermined amount of time. I just didn't think this was fair to do to him at sixteen years of age so we put him to sleep. These types of articles I understand why some have a problem with it but I understand that kind of love and I don't babysit anyone. If they want to spend their money on their pets that is their prerogative. I doubt there are many who forego their own chemotherapy for their pets and if they did well that is their choice. They are adults.

Yeah all things considered, you would think that it would be equal. Of course, health care, no matter who it is from, it is far from cheap. It is really a pain to really have and obviously there are people who would rather suffer than shell out any money. But they do love their pets, so they are going to spend all kinds of money and keep everything right in order. I'm sure they have their own reasons about why they would spend more money on their pets then they would really do with themselves. It is just something that really just gives them rather pause. Of course, people do love their pets, and we do need to care for them, but you also have to really care for themselves as well. It is an interesting conquest.

I no longer have pets but have had many dogs and cat in my life. Now I am a mother and I would do almost anything and pay just about anything for my children and their health. Although not all parents are like this many are. I think this is similar to animal care. Many people especially those who have no one else in their lives view their pets as their children and thus would spend any amount on them.
