Hi Hisz Wifeyy,
Welcome to Mylot!
Well, when my daughter was younger, I let her join up on Myspace which at the time was considered pretty bad too. She was pretty young...maybe 12? I'll tell you why. See, I got tipped off that she was on there by a friend. I checked it out and sure enough, she was and she was posting her age as 18. I got after her and took the computer away. Next thing I know, she is on there from a friends home and putting pics up. I closed out the account and she got grounded. I finally gave in and let her have one but only if I could have the password. My fear was that she'd do something not safe and I'd be clueless. I did not invade her privacy but just did random checks which got less and less as she proved that she was responsible and safe. I think it is better to teach them how to be safe online than to deny them and that is when they go behind your back.

And that happens when they are sneaking on there and the parents have no idea that they have an account or the parents just are not paying attention. They will get on there with or without parent permission so it is better that the parents just be involved and keep an eye on it.

Well, if parents are monitoring the online usage, I don't really understand an age limit at all. Facebook is probably REQUIRED to offer an 'age limit' BECAUSE so many parents won't monitor anything their kids do, and they have to do that to avoid getting sued. I know for a fact that many parents create a page for their kids, sometimes even for babies. I don't see a problem with it. Yes there are crazy people and bullies, but those are everywhere, not just online, in real life.
There are 5 year olds with iPhones now, and it doesn't matter whether I agree with it or not, it's a fact. I wouldn't give my 5 year old an iPhone but there's nothing I can do about the parents who do. Last of all, I don't think I corner the market on 'the right choice' so who cares? LOL!
I have kids so I've been through the social network game more than once. I never minded the kids having myspace and facebook, when they were younger I just required access, like user info and pw.

I cnt argue with yhu on that yhu right but some parents dnt monitor their kids! I came across some parent n heard bout the horrible things their going thru with their kids n fb but I'm not qunna get into it online..... but I agree with yhu jus some parents dnt care enough to actually sit there to monitor their kids online.

Even if the parents do monitor them and think they are doing the right thing, there is no guarantee. Kids at that age can go to their friends homes and make up their own account separate from what they show the parents. The parents should be open with their kids and also tell them of the dangers and concerns. I used to show my daughter the news articles of things that happened to kids who gave out too much info to someone they didn't know but thought they could trust.

I agree with you. Here in my country, even babies have facebook pages. It's stupid, really as a baby can't even read and would have no reason to have a facebook account. What's even stupider is that some people even create facebook profiles for their pets. I'm a pet lover myself but I don't see a reason why one would create a facebook page for your pet.

Facebook doesn't allow minor age to join their site, but there are too many ways to cheat your age especially when no one actually knows you are at that age, well, these bullies and crazy people are everywhere not just in a cyber world, maybe it just that these children really want to have some fun, and about the parents, now a days parenting really varies in different community, there are parents who can't afford to give their child some financial support so accessing the internet is so hard for children, while others does not care where ever their child go as long as they give them money so they won't be disturb in their chores. We cannot stop these under age fellow to access the internet unless we stop the main web server. Just my opinion.

Yeah.facebook is even planning to let kids under 12 years old use facebook legally! We all know that Internet is not a good place for kids where there might be cyber bullies and mature contents.Media is a strong influence to people especially to kids. They shouldn't allow kids use facebook.
