My Chihuahua Is Having Surgery! Much Needed Prayers!

Hello Mylotters, Well, today is the day. My tiny tea cup Chihuahua is having surgery. A few days ago we noticed him walking kind of strange, as if he were in pain and having a hard time jumping up to lay on him bed. So, I called the vet and they said to bring him in right away. The doctor confirmed that is knee cap was sliding side to side. This condition she said is just from his genetics..He was born with this problem. Well, now he is a year old and I am worried because he is so small. He is also having teeth pulled because the vet said his tiny, baby teeth didn't fall out like they were supposed to. The total surgery is costing about $900 dollars but the vet's office is taking $200 dollar payments until we can pay off the full balance. I am so thankful they are willing to work with us, as there is no price I wouldn't pay for my baby boy. He is there now and all I can do is wait it out. For any pet owner, this can be frightening. I need a lot of prayers because he is my little baby and I hate seeing him in so much pain. Thanks my friends!

I am sorry to hear of your Chihuahua's knee and teeth problems, JenAC1984. We have had a couple of teacup Chihuahua's and they are a lot of fun. We've also owned several Scottish Terriers, and other breeds. Once, one of my Scotties had to have emergency surgery during the night. The veterinarian didn't have an assistant, so I had to assist! It was scary watching him cut open my beloved friend. Fortunately, it saved his life! It is good to hear that the Veterinarian is working with you regarding payments for the surgery. I am sending positive thoughts your way. What is your Chihuahua's name? Peace.

Thanks for your support on this matter. my chihuahua is my little baby boy. His name is Chico. My cousin breeds Scottish Terriers, but not for the money. She Breeds them for the family because everyone wants one. She has never sold them though. Yes, I am very blessed that the vet is willing to help me out to give me time on paying for the surgery. It helps out when payday comes.

That is very generous of your cousin. We had a couple of litters. The first one was a bit of a surprise, and we ended up with a litter of cute little puppies. We ended up selling most of them and without exception everyone who bought one contacted me later to say how well socialized the puppies were. I replied, of course they were -- we're not breeders. My three boys played with these puppies daily until the moment they went to their new homes. Unfortunately, I am now Scotty-free. Am hoping to find one again, soon. Chico is in my prayers, as are you as you worry. Everything is going to be okay. Peace.

I'll certainly say a prayer. I have had a couple of Chihuahuas, and one of them had a hip that would constantly come out of place. But it didn't bother him. My vet said it was genetic, and sometimes when it happened, it didn't cause pain to the dog in question. I was blessed that it wasn't something he needed surgery for. When I got my current chihuahua Annabelle fixed, she had to have a couple of teeth removed as well for the same reasons as yours.

Oh AmbiePam, my baby boy is doing great now! He is recovering and healing well. I have him on two meds ot prevent infection and help with pain. I appericate your kindness and the prayers from everyone has been so wonderful. Some times our pets cannot tell us if they are hurting, as they don't seem to complain my and deal with it. I cannot stand the thought of him going through any time of pain, as he is so very important to our family! I am blessed that he is doing well!

I've sent up a prayer for you. I know the fear when something happens to a small dog like that. I've had it happen to chihuahua's before, and it's scary. Remember he may be small but he has a big heart, and he is courageous under all that.

My baby boy is doing just fine now and recovering like a troop! His teeth are out and is leg is healing. I have him on two different meds. Pain and swelling seem to be likely, but for now he is just relaxing his tiny body. I know God is watching over him. Thanks for your kind words my friend. He is a strong little guy, that's for sure!

Well, I am truly sorry for your baby's sickness. I hope the surgery goes well. I also have dogs. Once I have Chow chow, I like her so much. It is the first Chow-chow breed I pet. One day, I and my family went home after going somewhere ( i forgot). And I saw my sweety Ivy was on the floor. Her legs were on a strange position, and there are saliva out of her mouth. I was blank, speechless, and lost. She was my favorite dogs but she's gone faster than others. Till now i can't forget her. I love her name Ivy... :)

Hello Jen. I know what it feels like to have your pet taken by the Vets to be operated on, as one day my West Highland Terrier started to limp while walking. We decided to bring him to the vets and they said he had a fractured toe, so he had to have it amputated :S I was glad to see him again, minus his completely shaved leg. I wish you the best of luck :)

We treat our pet like a family member to us,that makes us worry and sad when we know that they are suffering from pain or illness.I feel for what you feel since I had a bad experience on that too.I have a dog also a baby boy shihtzu, he suffered from eye infection before because somebody had accidentally poked him on the eye with scissors that caused the infection eventually, and because of that incident,he couldnt barely open his left eye and two days after that,I noticed a cloudiness on his eyes also that made me panic and was so desperately asking for help from his Veterinarian, not to mention the amount required which indeed big amount. So then medications were given and thank God that he recovered and cured after a week, prayers are powerful. From then on,I am more extra careful and cautious on my Dog.Dogs are like babies too, they cant express their feelings in words so observation and or monitoring them is highly required to somehow prevent these from happening, but on your Dog's case, this is not preventable since it comes from his genes and this is comes from the fact also that,Chihuahua is a breed Dog just like mine and that, it has always its advantage and dis-advantage which is sometimes we hardly know about but,the good thing was you noticed that stranged behavior from your Dog and you took action right away instead of ignoring it. I hope that your baby now is okay and completely recovered from the surgery made.
