Hello Mylotters!!!
I was just wondering how many of you were writers before you had joined MyLot. I have been writing short stories and poetry since the age of 9. I use to write stories just for fun and a teacher of mine picked up on it quickly. She wondered why I spent most of my free time writing and asked if she could read some of them. She actually gave me an award, and I won three writing competitions after that, as she signed me up for a writing class that was beyond my years. I also write poetry, as it is a way to express my thoughts and feelings. Publishing a book is certianly on my life list! hehe..
So, are you a true writer?

hello jenac1984! this is a good question! i loved writing stories and poetry when i was younger and when in school and college and university i had to write a lot of papers and then in my jobs i had to write a lot of documentations and assessments so writing lost some of its fun for me...i have diverted that creativity and become colorful and me into painting/art...it is a good place for me where i don't have to use words, but am still portraying...however, i am and always have been a voracious reader and i am married to a writer who is amazingly talented! i think you are right, my lot is definitely a place to express one'self!

Hello my friend, I am glad that you enjoy this discussion! I see you have had the passion for writing stories and poetry as well. I love to vent on paper and if it's personal and deep, I can keep it to myself, just as a journal or diary you know? Wow, you are married to a writer? I bet oyu have a lot of material to read around the house. I am working on a poetry book but with work and kids, it's a bit slow to finish. Thanks for your input and have a wonderful Moday!

i use to write tamil short stories when i was in my teen age-- forty years ago. i use to send to magazines and also all india radio. all of them will be returned. still i use to write.
this ability helped me say a few years afterwards to write articles, exercises for my bank publications and I did them very well.
i wrote a book thirty years ago --bank promotion test and proved successful. more than 9000 copies were sold. i wrote for the publisher.
about ten years ago i took to writing in full for competitive exams--banks, ssc, ias nift, hotel management etc. -- i would have written 20K pages.-- a few are published a few are used by institutes and many remain unused.
our duty is to simply write and see that they are made use of.

Ravisivan, I applaud you, as you had the passion and will power to write, even if the company had returned them, you strived to do your best and that shows the passion and dreams you had for writing.
But then you kept up the hard work and it seems to have paid off for you. Wow, 9000 copies is a big accomplishment. I applaud you as well for your success!
From sharing your story with me, I can tell from all of the above that you are such a strong and amazing writer..and worker as well.
I agree too and would hope that my writings would be of some use, even if it was just for a few who really took to it. Thanks for sharing and being a good friend!

Well I'm not a big writer but I remember 5 months ago when I registered Mylot. My English was so bad that I just didn't know what to do. But in these 5 moths I studied hard English and I think that I succeed. I have wrote so many e-mails and posts and all that. I really like when writing something on English and all can understand what I mean to say. Well at least understand the main things maybe. My native language is Bulgarian and I'm happy that I know other language. So yeah I can say that I'm a kind of writer.

Dobsyto, I see that writing has imporved your English skills, as I can very clearly read your post here. MyLot offers so much and is a great place to vent, ask questions and along the way, yes, it improves writing and typing skills in my opinion. You can also learn a lot just by reading others' comments as well. You are very intelligent and very strong person to learn two laungauges. I think it's great that you have taken this on. I have learned that English is the hardest language to take on; simply because we have so many differt words for one word that can mean the same.
Ravisivan, thanks for your help! I also agree talking in English will help our friend, dobsyto! Once you know how to speak the words, you can sound them out if you forget the correct spelling and spell check also helps too. Thanks for the advice and have a good Monday everyone! It's back to work for me!

I have been writing since the age of 12. Wrote steadily over the years and first had small articles in magazines and so on. Then my short story collection was born and within 14 years I wrote ten novels. I also wrote the script for my film which was adapted from my best selling novel Confessions of a Gambler about a Muslim woman with scarves and robes who falls prey to the disease.

Hello riempie9,
Wow, very impressive with your accomplishments! That is outstanding! I have also attempted to write novels and find it to be very pleasing. I have so many unique topics to write about. I love creating stories and characters as well. I love writing romance, but not the old fashion kind haha! The setting is always magical and inviting, even for the readers...I love to be vry passionate and yet, hold back on the excitement just to get my readers on the edge of their seats. I am so inspired by certain authors as well and find myself reading constantly. It helps to come up with ideas, yet put a twist on the story as well.

Hello fellow writer and friend! I would love to collaborate with you on some writings I have tucked away. I also write daily, well, nightly as I have kids to put to bed at night, and it allows me some extra "mommy time" to myself. I have a hard time sleeping because there are so many ideas to write about. I am very passionate about writing and hope to become published soon. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I started at age 12 and at that time it was more of a coping mechanism. I had a rotten childhood and kept diaries... and here I am. Of course as a child you don't set out to educate yourself. It was just notes you make - who pulled your hair in class, which boy you like; that sort of thing. Don't ever despair.

I wrote my first story when I was 8. I wasn't very good at spelling at that time so I constantly asked my mother how to spell the words that I wanted to write I remember the feeling very clearly, I had the story in my head and I just had to write it down. With my mother's help I managed to finish the story. Around that time I also started writing a couple of other stories, but I didn't finish them. When I was 11 I wrote my first poem and it was a school assignment. I enjoyed writing that poem and when I back to my home I continued writing poems. Today I am 35 and I still write stories and poems.

Hi Porcospino, You know, it's neat to see you started writing at 8, as I was also a very young writer. I used a dictionary though. My father would read my stories a scetch pictures to go along my them. It was very thoughtful of him. He's a great artist, and I have learned many art skills along the way as well. Thanks for sharing oyur story!

I write as a hobby, even before my MYlot days. That day I was browsing for website where I can display my output and I came across this site. I then found interest in Mylot because there were a lot of good discussions, especially on writing and earning money online.
After that, I joined a lot of writing sites and am regularly earning a few extra bucks because of writing online.

Hello ip5217,
I also came to MyLot to express my ideas and thoughts. I love communicating and interacting with others..Plus, I've always loved helping and giving advice to people as well, as I am going to college to become a psychiatrist myself.
What other sites do you use to write? Please let me know. I'd love to check them out on my spare time. Back to work for me, have a beautiful day!

Hi there, I like writing since I was a little kid. I cannot write a poetry but I like writing stories. Most of my stories are based on my real life or my friends life (and of course I asked her permission to write her life as a novel). I made several novel based on my experience but I only write in my native language, I only write in English on mylot. I like writing sci-fi novel, romance, mystery, about 6th senses, live in outerspace, ancient civilization etc lol some people said my imagination is really weird but I like to write what I like, I never published my novel I only share it with close friends of me. I think mylot is a great place to share our experience and share what we feel inside.

I'm a writer, in that, I love to write. I didn't realize it until I was over 40 years old. I had too many things on my plate so writing wasn't a priority when I was younger.
I can wake up in the morning with thoughts that I want to put on paper. If I have an idea for a discussion I like to sit down at my computer and create it before I do anything else.
It's nice when you have the freedom to allow your thoughts to flow as you type.

Yeah even i used to write short stories and poems during my childhood days and used to compile them in a note book. That has really helped me over the years and even now i look for platforms like this to express my views by writing.

Hello subhojojit10, I have run across a lot of writers who started in their childhood years. I believe it is a gift and it also must be a passion. Writing takes skill, but it also takes inspiration and dedication. I would love to find a publisher and mail off a few of my stories to see if maybe they would find an interest in them. I know it takes a lot just to get your foot in the door, but I am passionate about what I do. Thanks for sharing your story!

I see, you're a one great writer. I really sucks at writing class where you have to write long paragraph stories since i don't have any ability to write one, that's why i hate it. I'am not a writer before joining mylot, but just a forumer from different sites before.

Hello bLadee,
Thanks for the compliment, as I am so very passionate about writing, especially poetry! I know how it is to be in college and it may be hard to write paper after paper and then become a dedicated writer as well. If you really have the passion though, it's something you can create when you have some down time you know? You say you dislike writing, but there are many ways to improve your writing skills. It's good for everyone to do so, as it is a big part of life, that is, if you wish to. It's great that you interact with others and take it upon yourself to join in on converstations to share your stories, so thank you for that!

I started writing from a young age, and always enjoyed writing stories and things like that. I would write things for my family, and people in school would pay me to write poems for their family on their birthday. I had a talent for writing, and I like to think that I have made the most of that ever since. I still write poems for people all the time and it is something that I don't think I am going to stop enjoying any time soon. I write on MyLot for fun more than anything, and still find the time to write articles to be published for the world to see as well.

Hi Jen! I have always been fascinated with topics about the love for writing.
I started at a very young age, probably the same as you did, 9 or 10 years old. It all began with a pink and red hello kitty notebook which I already forgot where it came from. I scribbled everything in there, my feelings, my thoughts, my plans, etc. Eventually, writing a diary has become a habit that I feel so incomplete if I miss a day of not even opening it!
I guess my love for writing started after I fell inlove with reading. As a child, I have had always been surrounded by books and magazines. Papers, how I love the smell of each and every page as I skim them carefully through my nose! The tick of each letters in a typewriter brings me so much memory! Haha, maybe they are peculiar traits but if you love reading and writing, you'll what I mean

Yes I was a writer before I joined the site. I wrote my first story in second grade. I also had lots of support from my teachers. I once took a creative writing class, but had to quit early, because we moved. I wasn't learning much from it anyway. I went above and beyond everyone else anyway, even shocked the teacher.
