i have recently moved to the northwest from the south (usa) and am overjoyed by all the beautiful peonies i have seen in gardens around our town...we were not familiar with peonies in the south (coastal georgia) as the heat was too extreme for them and the sandy soil not right...i would love to grow some of these beauties in our own garden...do any of you mylot gardeners grow peonies? what varieties and what advice would you have for a novice peony grower?

Peony is China's national flower. In Luoyang, central China, the flowers are planted all over and grow well. Each year in spring, from April to May, numberous tourists will come to enjoy. The climate that peonies love is neither too hot nor too cold.Luoyang is located in the temperate, the same to most part of the US.There are different kinds of peonies you can differ. When peonies bloom, their overlapped, colorful and splendid petals will remind you of the most beautiful things in the world. Women in the flowers feel that they are in a fairyland. So, if you want to plant peonies, just buy some seeds and do it. Either in garden or in pot is OK.I think the climate in your country is suitable for this flower.Take care of them heartedly, and the next spring you will see one of the world's wonders.

And also, peony symblos the rich and noble class in the past China. Many maids in palace decorate their head, clothes and shoes by peony print. See the flower itself, you will understand. It's born in a noble land and grow noblely all the time. That's women's favorite.

Yes, the ponies can grow very quickly. I am not surprised that it is too the hot for these beautiful creatures in the southern the USA. Poor things.
I wanted the ponies when I was a child but we no had the room for them. It is neato that you have the room to grow the ponies in your garden. Your town sounds fascinating! Like what I have read about the Kentucky with all the horsies. How many ponies have you seen in the town? It must be the very tolerant town to have all these ponies as they make the big messes of the poops.
I would say to have plenty of the waters and the grasses for these ponies. They should be happy this way. And I think they like the sugars, but I am not sure. I have just seen these things on the tv and on the vacation.
Do you have a name picked for your ponies? How many ponies do you want?

I was born in the bithplace of peonies,China. It's the country's national flower. Peony likes place where noble, rich people and beautiful ladies live. Seeing those pictures you can understand the flowers themselves are born noble, rich and beautiful.

hello pageturner....it is true that i now have a nice garden and an exceptional town, lake woebegon, in which to live....however, the psychoartist would always prefer peonies to ponies...as you pointed out there is the poop factor in the pony situation...have you yourself got ponies?
chinaflower, thank you for your charming description of peonies...if i am able to grow them successfully, i will be even happier knowing what you have shared with us...

I had the responsibility to order for flowers for the office as part of my administrative job I was handling and the florist once sent me peonies. I was wonder struck as I had not seen these flowers before. They do not grow in my garden but I was told that they come from North India where the climate is just right for these flowers. They prefer a cool climate.
