Significance of Star Rating to Your Post on Mylot!

I saw a fellow, who has a star 5 rating and yet has over 300 discussion aggregate and another fellow with star 8 rating with 153 rating. How does this read? What significance is it to your name and network of friends. Will you be given preferences by mylot? Answer please
