Why let others decide what we wear?

A new fad in fashion comes out and everyone goes wild - must have it! Why do we let these fashion 'gurus' decide what we will wear?
Has anyone ever noticed that most fashion moguls are terrible dressers with equally terrible hair? (They call it eccentric; I call it bad taste.) What makes us think they know what is best for everyone else when they obviously don't know how to dress themselves?
Those of us who insist we are individuals with our own style are kidding ourselves if we follow every new fashion trend. We are little more than lemmings going over the cliff because the front lemmings wanted to go for a swim after diving off a really high platform. In other words, we are anything BUT individuals.
I prefer to find my own style, one that makes me look my best and adjust it slightly as times change. Following fads usually means most of us are wearing ill fitting unflattering clothes just because 'everyone else is doing it.'
What do you do? Do you follow the winds of fashion or do you carefully plan the right look for your face and figure? What is your favorite look for yourself?

My favorite look for myself is comfort! Which means baggie! Imagine if I was a young woman of today! I'd be way out of fashion, for female that is..

I like comfort, but want to be ready to go out at a moment's notice, so I tend to look fairly put together unless working out in the yard. Mostly, I want clothing that fits well yet is comfortable with colors that flatter.

Yes. I do agree with you both. For me, I always put comfort on top when selecting my clothes. Secondly, I have to make sure that I look good and neat on it.That's the two points that I follow. I don't follow trends that don't compliment my body features because I would look odd and ugly. For me, I'd rather look elegant than look trendy.

Whenever I read fashion magazines the first thought in my head is, "What the hell?" All of the models look ridiculous. NOBODY wears clothes like that in real life. I guess if it's someone's thing to dress like that, that's cool...But I wear what I want without clinging onto fashion icons and whatnot. Then again, if you get your inspiration from fashion gurus then more power to the person. I guess it's all about being yourself.

I only follow the latest "fashion" when it is something that actually looks good on me (and I keep on wearing it even when it is no longer "fashionable") OR when it is the only thing available and I need something new (in this case I usually end up donating it as soon as something more flattering comes along).

I usually thumb my nose at pretty much anything that is considered to be cool and hip right at the time. There are many times where I just look at the things that are rather considered to be in and I just really wonder why these things tend to stick. Then again, there is just a lot about the trends of society that I do not understand and thus I never might understand.
I never really got how it was considered fashionable to wear a pair of jeans that had holes in them. Especially considering they cost more than the normal jeans. You could buy normal jeans, get a pair of scissors, and go to town. There are some fashion trends that defied all belief. But then again, I do all of my clothes shopping at the dollar store or Wal-Mart.

That particular fashion is proving bad for the boys' bones and muscles since they have to hold their legs at an odd angle to keep them in place. What they don't seem to understand is that fad began in prison where a man who was willing to be someone's play toy let them know by wearing low riding pants.
Like I said, why do we ever let someone else set the trend?

I don't actually follow those fads in clothes. But i would always want to know what's the latest fashion.
I would usually take into consideration, that the style being a fad, would soon go out of fashion and it would be awkward wearing one .
Hence, when i buy clothes, it is a cross between the style of the new one and the classic. That way, it would not be obvious that it's out of style already when the time comes.
I also take into consideration fi my body will look great on it.

I dont , I dont even know what is the fashion right now. Hahaha, I like to dress up confortable, sometimes I try to buy something on fashion but if it looks terrible on me , i will put it on the side. I like to match my outfits with my favorite colors and confortable fabrics, still I like to look nice to my eyes. Thats it , I dont care what the fashion is.
