Life is a series of chances

I heard this over the local Christian radio station here in my place- the saying: "Life is not a series of chances but a series of choices"
I don't believe that life is all choices as chances also plays a role. I also don't want to believe that life is all chances as we do have the ability to choose the course of our lives.
If I believe in chance, I believe in luck and when I believe in choices I believe in the power of will.
Just like this verse in the bible:
Proverbs 16:1-3
1 We may make our plans, but God has the last word. 2 You may think everything you do is right, but the Lord judges your motives. 3 Ask the Lord to bless your plans, and you will be successful in carrying them out.

I believe life is a series of chance and choices. Chance because I cannot choose my race, my family, my looks and my personality. However, I do have a certain degree of control of my life if I make personal choices base on personal discretion.
What do you think? Which controls our life more, chances or choices?

I haven't really thought of this but i believe that life is full of choices and I don't believe in luck. I just believe that i'm blessed. Though I didn't get to choose my family, my parents chose to have me.
Everything that's been happening to me are actually results of my own doing or my own choices whether i like it or not.

Did you ever consider that God is so generous He gave us choices in life? It's by His grace that we are living on earth but He is also wise enough to give us the freedom of choice! If He didn't give us that freedom then all of us will go to heaven.
If you are talking about God's blueprint then are you telling me that criminals didn't have a choice but to commit a crime?

I would have to say, decisions control more of our lives than anything. I feel that God has a path for all of us but when we choose something selfish over what God wants he has to let it play out. Bad decision lead to bad consequences, its just that simple. Not all good choices lead to great things, sometimes our choices are influenced by God to lead us somewhere he needs us to be. That's when faith takes over and we have to believe that God wants the best for us, in every situation.

Thanks for your answer, I really want to hear people choose, it is a matter of choices or decisions and that our choices can be influenced by God.

for every situation in life good or bad we make a choice,
we make a choice, to accept, change, or leave things as they are.
Our attitude is a choice, we can choice to have a good attitude or a bad one,
even being a christian is a choice, God gave us the choice. And that is what that christian radio station meant.

I believe both items. We should all know that we cannot choose everything that happens to us. A car runs a redlight and hits our car. You or a family member is diagnosed with cancer. A storm comes and causes damage to our home. Your car breaks down one night and the person who stops to help you just happens to become your mate later on. We obviously cannot choose those things. However, how we deal with them is a definite choice. So, in once sense, yes, life is a series of choices - but those choices are often about the chances that have taken place.

I believe that life is a mixture of both chances and choices. Some things we can have some control of while other things we can not. Life is a mystery we can never know the outcome of in advance. the chances we take and the choices we make do have an effect on that outcome.

Many things depend strictly by us, our resolutions, and if the results of our actions are not expected, this means that we decided not correct, not that things happened according to a predetermined scenario. Only those who will not admit mistakes will console caching the second version.

Hi there,
I love your topic... this is the first time I heard about chances vs choices because I familiar with free will.
Anyway both chances and choices are not applicable to our spiritual life and even in our actual life - why? Because we human being has a Creator who can guide, conrol and know about us.. From what you doing, going to do, happened, happining, to happen to us are from the purpose and plan of God. Some said if like that we are ROBOT - hard to say or understand yes.... we are like a movie that the God made, direct and watching...

For me life is a series of choices we make in life. Proverbs 16:1 means we have the free will to make plans but the phrases "God has the last word" only means God knows what is right for us. Verse 2 means, God can read what is really in our hearts, He knows our motives. Verse 3 means, if we seek God's guidance every time we make decisions in life we will be successful.

Chances and choices do manifest destiny.I truly believe in the words that "do your best and leave the rest",so i believe choices do affect our future more than luck.I hope many agree to this ,as you may have realized it through your life till now.Choices we make when they are in offer really turns the tide against or towards us.Lets not brood too much on chances as fortune follows the perfectionists more than any one else.do what you can and hope for the best, this is all i want to express here.
