Do you accept "last minute" tasks?

Sometimes, we work on our tasks as efficiently and as effectively as possible. There are times when we tend to put our efforts in it so that we could accomplish them early. Finishing our tasks early gives us enough time to do other chores or other tasks. For some, finishing their tasks early means more time for the family or for themselves. However, there are instances when we thought we are done with our tasks when suddenly few minutes before you leave the office, your boss gives you some last minute tasks which you can hardly complete at that time and so you do not have much choice but to work overtime.
Have you experienced this? What did you do?
I have experienced this several times already. There was even a time when I finished all my requirements for the semester earlier because I had to go out of town. Just when I was about to travel, I got a call that I HAVE to report to work on some papers and that I HAVE to accomplish them ASAP. Since I didn't have any choice at that time, I just reported and finished what I had to finish as fast as I could. In other instances, I just accept and work overtime. Or, requested that I will be given enough time to complete the requirement.

that would irate me too....... and, like you, I would not see any way around it but try my best to fit these last minute tasks in as well.
LOL I got to admit I am getting into this frenzy everytime I will go on vacations. I have this week off work and guess what I was doing last week, yes getting rid of some old stuff I still have to do and didnt take the time to care about yet. Not that I am lazy, but there was so much to do that I didnt get to these things yet.
There would be a really easy solution and I will try to follow this for a while now when I get back. We have the to do list in the computer, and no, I dont mean, just erase the tasks, but get from the oldest to the newest. When the oldest takes a day so what, then its off my chest and I bet some of the others will be quicker ones anyways.

Yes, I accept last minute tasks. It doesn't happen very often, but I always make sure to say yes. Not only does it give me a little extra money, but it shows others that I'm willing to work. Hopefully doing this will lead to better things in the future.
Happy mylotting!

There are times when my boss and immediate boss ask me to accept and finish last minute tasks. I don't like to do this kind of tasks, but it is ok for them to tell me a few days in advance, not when it needs to be done so soon as it takes time to think about.

I experienced this many times, in fact I've been with that in my 1st year at my current job. Seems the boss didn't mind if it's time to leave the office, so they will give me another job to do which leads me to extend my working hours. I hate it before but then I get used to it. I came from previous job that doesn't require me to do last minute job except if it's AJA audit time.

Well, we can’t help it. We need the money and as much as we don’t want to work overtime, we do it for the financial reasons. I myself experienced that. In my case, I said I would doing double duty because I cannot complete the first part of the task, so I told my boss that I will compensate by doing the double. I worked on my bottom the whole day to complete the said task and when I opened my email, there was an urgent one waiting my attention. Naturally, I have to do the urgent one after I sent the double task.
I ended up sitting for another half of day doing the urgent task with my mind almost going to the drain. After that, I felt entitled to sleep like a baby (which I did).
I got confused by your situation, do you work at school or are you doing post-graduate work?

There is no choice when you are doing a regular job, you can't refuse to do it all even overtime, that is why I hated job with basic salary, they use you until you are drained out.

Hi, Dolce.
Since I have not worked for a long time, I don't encounter many emergencies that entails to finish something in last minutes. But I have been through that during my college life. It is a tough time.
