I'm using my laptop without a battery now as the battery seems useless. I wonder if this can harm my computer... I don't know the battery is not working anymore, it drains so fast. Cannot even use it for an hour.Maybe it needs replacement, I bought this almost 6 years ago. I'm not happy anymore the way my computer works now. Or maybe there is still a remedy. I cannot buy a new laptop now.. What do you think Mylot members? Your help please. Thanks.

Hello jobfindonline, you can have it check with a local technician, there must be some bugs or something. you could do a bit of a reformatting i think. besides, have you check how many files in your computer?? because the storage in your laptop as isn't many as those in the desktop

Try to see if your harddisk is full and if it is that is one of the reason that the laptops runs very slowly. If you are able to buy a new battery try buying a new battery for your laptop. I think you can try upgrading some parts like memory to make the laptop run more faster and efficiently.

yup the memory is also one of the factors I am seeing. I will try to upgrade my laptop's memory or save some of my files in dvd or external hard drive.

I bought my laptop four years ago. It was my first laptop, but I found it not as good as desktop. In my view, under the same condition, laptop usually does not perform as well as desktop.I think the most useful part of laptop is that you can easily to take it with you to many place. If the place is set, a desktop is a better choice. To make your laptop run fast, you need to clear it often, both on hardwares and softwares. Move the useless software away from the computer that could be helpful.

The only thing I appreciate about laptop is I can bring it anywhere, I can work in my bed but desktop as you said is better than a laptop but it's too big for me. I'm planning to buy another desktop once I have enough budget.

You don't need the battery in your laptop! I run my old laptop on ac power only for hours, and it runs fine. My battery is down to almost nothing- despite recharging; I just have the battery installed to have a backup power source in case the power cord comes out. Laptops run better when plugged in to the electrical outlet, instead of constantly running it on battery power.

Thanks for this info, I didn't know that laptop runs better without a battery. But I noticed that my laptop is overheating so I put back again the battery. I'm afraid it would explode without the battery.

You just charged your battery over and over. It doesn't affect the way your computer works. You just need a time to clean your computer, you can still give it a remedy. Maybe it's better to reformat you're computer but before that back-up your files first or if you don't like use software like ccleaner. There are plenty of ways but i can't discuss all of them here and there are many of them when you tried to search.

I repeatedly charge my battery the reason why it drains so fast now. Yeah my computer needs a reformat and it is wise to back up first my files. The last time I did it in my old computer, some files were lost. I thought it was transferred but I failed.

Well batteries need to be replaced from item to time. You have been using it for quite a time already and obviously it wears out. If your laptop is running slow, it is not because of the power supply. Regardless you use battery power or direct power when it is efficient, then it is supposed to be efficient. Perhaps you should clean your registry, defragment, and scan for viruses.

6 years for a battery is very old, and it is normal that it drains fast : a standard laptop li-ion battery lasts about 2 years. An autonomy of 1 hour after 6 years is not bad. The battery has nothing to do with the speed of your portable : you should try to defrag and optimize your HDD and registry database. In fact, with the time, the Windows registry grows and the PC runs more slowly. The best would be to reinstall Windows or to switch to Linux where this problem does not exist.

so my laptop is still not the worst.. yeah right compare to others it's good cause I use it with care. but eventually our usage shortens the life of our computer. I will try to defrag and optimize my HDD and registry database. It seems Linux is better than windows, still unsure. I will research more before I decide to switch. Thanks.

My laptop is about 3 years now. That is just normal if your batter drains fast, maybe you used it before overnight and charge it again and again. And no, the laptop can't harm without the battery. Your laptop runs slow because maybe you are files are too many.Try using CCleaner or defrag your drives :)

oh really it can't harm my computer? I'm happy to know that since I don't need to rush buying a new battery if ever it becomes totally useless. I think my files are what also keeping my computer slow but I still have enough free space. Thanks, I will take your advice.

Hi.. I suggest to use your computer with its battery. It protects your computer when the electricity down. Use a software that can be used to watch you battery health like Battery Care. It's free software. Try it..

You always take care of your laptop by keeping it in a safe place. Clean every day it by using a clean cloth. Install a good operating system in it to work properly. First of all you have to know it's configuration. Select a suitable operating system to it. If your system is slow working. Please format your system first and install needful software in it. Remove unnecessary items instantly. You need not to buy a new laptop now. You may change your battery first. But it should be in working condition properly. Install only licensed software in to your laptop. Install only needful items depending upon your nature of work and weight of your work. Use any UPS (power supply) for betterment of your laptop to work properly.
