To add a white glow behind an image, you will have to first create a clipping mask for the image in question and then after copying the clipped image on a new layer add outer glow to it. Let me know if that helps

Hi,
Masking is perhaps one of the main things a photoshop user should be good with. With practice you will be able to see how wonderful results you can get using masking.
Posting step by step instructions here will be difficult and it will be easier for you to follow a tutorial that I can suggest. Here is the link.

Please let me know if this helps

I have not learn Photoshop from any institute, I download tutorials and then I try to do it but most of the time I do not get the results as in the tutorials that is why I cannot find out where I am making mistakes but I am learning slowly slowly and I hope I would be able to perform basic things in PS very soon.
Thanks for the link, I have had a glimpse over the the article and it seems very good and the images after modification and Photoshop editing are awesome. I am going to copy paste the article in word document and then I am going to try it. I am using CS 3 I hope I can perform all the steps in it and it is not older or newer version of Photoshop.

I am not aware about the clipping mask feature on Photoshop, can you explain me it in detail or in step by step.

I really dont know the most appropriate action but i'm actually doing that thing.. There are two ways i could recommend:
1st-If you can marquee, copy and paste the actual figure you want to have a background with. Copy it on a other picture(plain white).
Second-If you are lighthanded and patience, you can paint the background with the brush tool.

yes, I know we can marque the figure than we can put it on the white background.
we can give white and black gradient behind the image as well.
using paint tool would be boring and time consuming process.

What you need to do is to "deep-etch" the image first so that you will have that one image on one layer. Use pen tool to do this. If you practice long enough, you will find that tracing an image is quite easy using the pen tool. And if you want to be any good at photoshop (looking to work on it as a pro?), then you have to invest the time on polishing that technique. 90% of photoshop is separating object into layers. Once you get the object on a separate layer, you can now try tinkering with the glow effect attributes.

what does deep-etch mean.
I know how to select the image by using pen tool and then making a selection and then pasting it on a new layer but I did not know how to add glow behind any image.
yes, you are right most of the things which we can do in Photoshop we would need to have a using pen tool skill. if we are good at it then we can do good work.

Oh I'm sorry. I just borrowed the jargon "deep-etch" from a client project description. I hope I have not misused it. Anyway, from how he described the project, deep etch simply means to trace an object using the pen tool so you can delete all other elements in the layer and isolate that object in that layer. Of course, you always do this to a copy layer (so you can always go back to the original layer if you have to).

that's okay.
yes, with the help of pen tool we can trace the object and then we can make selection of it and then we can move it or copy paste it on another layer.
