Safe neighborhoods...

When some people live in the city, they're more likely to lock their doors every time they step out. But maybe if they step out just for a few minutes, it's ok to not lock their doors. In the country side, some people are more at ease about locking their doors. So what about you? Do you always have to lock your doors when you step out? Even if you live in the city or the country? How safe is the area you live in... when have you had a bad experience when you did or didn't lock your door?

Hi, Lore, I live in the centre of a big city and I cannot go out of my apartment without locking the door. In fact I don't lock it but it doesn't have a handle on the outside, so you can't open it without a key. It's been like this all my life but now I see some old neighbours who lock their doors with keys and other devices. They are right, years ago I was robbed and robberies become more frequent. And people in the villages are not safe too.

If I have been robbed, i wouldn't be able to step outside without locking it. Your door sounds safe for not even having a knob from the outside.

Growing up in Brooklyn New York it is a way of life to always lock your door. Even if you leave the house for a few minutes. It is a habit for me now. No matter where I go I always lock the door. I even lock the car doors all the time. It is a big part of city living. I heard stories from my other and father when they were young, they never locked the door. But in my lifetime we had to.

I lock the door - unless I'm just running out to the front yard to check the mail or get something out of the car, etc. I do lock the door if I am just around the house, at night and I set the alarm if everyone is gone.
