Waking up too early

Lately I have been having a terrible time getting up 1 or 2 (or more sometimes!) hours before my alarm clock so that I'm not getting enough sleep. I never had a problem with insomnia before and it is driving me crazy! I have started taking melatonin and that helps me fall asleep really well but I can't seem to sleep through the night. :( I have heard this is a common problem but I really don't know what to do about it? Any advice for me?

Do you wake up having to use the bathroom or just wake up? If you have to wake up and use the bathroom then you should limit your liquid consumption prior to bed and eliminated prior to tucking in as well.
Are you stressed? If so, that could be another culprit. You should write down everything you need to do and everything you feel before you go to bed, it could be a nice outlet.

it happens to me. If I set the alarm, I will wake up an hour early. But if I not set, I will wake late :D
I gt insomnia sometimes when Im thinking about something too much. I think you only need some relax time, not thinking or stress on something.

I've been doing that, too, and I hate it! I've had trouble sleeping well for a long time, though, and I've yet to discover what causes it. A few things I've run across say to never eat or drink anything just before bedtime, to try to keep your bedroom not too hot or too cold and to exercise early in the day. None of those things have helped me, but maybe they will help you.

Do you know what you are awaken by? maybe it's the heat or cold or do you have aches in your body? You may want to check your diet as in, if you take too much caffeine, etc. Doing exercises or stretching before you sleep sometimes helps me or giving myself a brief massage.

Dear
Make sure that you don't drink caffeine at night because that will keep you awake.Try going to bed early. Some nights I have the same problem but usally when I can't get to sleep I have stayed up late the night before. You can also try exercising before you sleep to make you somewhat tired so that you can sleep better. The last thing I can suggest is your diet.Be sure I eat lots of fuits and veggies to help you.Happy mylotting!

You sound a lot like me. I stopped consuming caffeine and mt doctor had me take advil pm for a while. I also started a new exercise regimen before dinner. SO i would get home, get a few chores done, exercise, make dinner, read or listen to music, and eventually I would drift into sleep. It worked for me. I also cut out some stressful people in my life and I've never been happier. I never saw a counselor and I don't plan to. Also, don't watch TV or use the computer for more than thirty minutes before bed.
Also, read "insomnia" by Stephen King. It explains my sleeping pattern s to a tee. and it made me feel like I wasn't alone. It was a great read and I got some sleep after reading it and trying to understand why I was getting up at insane times.
Good luck!!
