I discovered there is a branch of the local library less than a mile from my house recently! I was so excited to find that, as a kid I spent hours and hours at the library. Not only that but they have a whole collection of "honor system" books you can check out with no due date at all!! Mostly paperback fiction. This is going to keep me so busy this summer, I'm very excited to have the library so close...I just wish it were bigger! Do you guys visit your library?

hi hdc4free! yes, mr.psychoartist and i are intense fans of libraries and all bookstores! in fact, i have just returned from our library! when mr. psychoartist and i were courting we were sometimes conversing(quietly) in one of my favorite libraries which i call "the superlibrary!" like you i had a great time at the neighborhood library as a child...for one thing i got to ride my bike there by myself and be independent...that library had a windowseat so i liked to sit in it and read and look out of the window...and there i was introduced to the greatest teen female sleuth of all time: nancy drew...great memories! happy reading to you!

That sounds like a wonderful library! There are really few things in the world I love more than a window seat and a book, it sounds wonderful. The "superlibrary" sounds fun too, I am going to hunt around for some bigger ones in my area to check out also, but I can't beat the convenience of the one close to home. :)

Congratulations on discovering a branch of the local library near you, hdc4free!! This is very excite news! I am a huge fan and supporter of public libraries. Since I was a wee young lad, I have spent many wonderful hours in the library, reading, exploring the world, etc. There is this library in Savannah, Georgia, that is a favorite of mine because not only does it have so many wonderful books, but it also has these huge windows with views of beautiful, live oak trees. It is a wonderful place to sit and read. My wife and I are currently working on our own library in our home and are looking forward to this process. We currently have a very nice library in our little town. It is an original Carnegie Libary and it was renovated just 10 years ago. It is very nice and the townsfolk take good care of it.

It sounds like you have some beautiful libraries to hang out in! Do you mean you are making a room into a library for you & your wife to use? I have always wanted a room like that, currently just have a corner for reading but I have lots of bookcases everywhere. I don't think I'll ever be able to get my books all in one room though, it might be fun to try. :)

We have bought an old church building. We are converting the downstairs into a study library. Lining the walls with bookshelves, and have a nice place for study. Our long term goal is to convert the upstairs, the sanctuary, into an artists studio and library, as it has much more room for even more books.

you sound like you really love books. having a library nearby your house means more books accessible for you. in my case, i am lucky to be still in school. i know that our library in the community is not good. it has very few collections and often closed because of lack of personnel from the library. i think you have to maximize the opportunity and resources given to your way.

That is too bad about your local library. I grew up in a college town so libraries were important to a lot of people there, but I have lived a lot of places where they aren't and it made me sad! Hope you enjoy the resources at school

Yes, I visit my library all the time. It has many great resources and it's free! Or well, it's ours from our taxes so we might as well take advantage of it!!

We have two kids - 7 and 2 - so we always go on library trips! Living where we do, we have many libraries around - they are just a short drive away. Not only do they have books to borrow, there are many nice programs for the kids. They have shows (like magic, animals, movies, music, dance), preschool storytime, arts and crafts, etc. And for the adults, I think they have some reading clubs and classes, as well as meetings for special interest clubs. Some of our libraries also have a bookstore - in which they sell donated books or ones that have been withdrawn from the library. Oh, and they also have videos or DVD's and music CD's (and audio books if you're into that) at the library too! Where we used to live, we were in walking distance of a college - and they have a BIG library. Downstairs is a teachers resource center in which anyone is allowed to use - and they have die cutters and some craft equipment people could use or borrow - not to mention childrens books In the lobby up front, there was usually a themed display of some sort - that was always cool to visit (like Japanese kites). We can still drive there locally, but it was nice when we could just walk. Honor system books - now that's something we don't have! I just paid over 13 dollars because we were overdue on my kids' books - argh!!! Enjoy your library and take advantage of all it has to offer!!

Wow it sounds like you have a great library. I agree the library is the perfect place to take kids and many communities have wonderful programs. I am terrible with late fees too, I admit I have trouble remembering to return things on time sometimes! That's why the honor books are perfect for me!

I love my local library. They see me and my sister at least twice a week. Each time, we check out a few things each and usually always get through the end of the week and we have to go again. I love seeing the look on the check out lady's face when I come in. Her whole face lightens up and she is always happy to see meI might volunteer there this summer. I mostly read fiction, but I do love a good romance novel as well. I do not like violent books because they scare me. I love my library as much as I love my cat!!!

You are luck to have a branch of the local library so close to your house! There are few libraries where I live and they only have books in German, which I can't read. As I can read and speak both Spanish and English and Spanish, I just buy those books or read newspapers on the Internet. That is what's good about it, as one can be anywhere and speak the language one desires!

Ya know, I love books. I love them so much I like to hold them, smell them, do a lot of stuff with them, but I hate to have to give them back - so I prefer to buy them! I have a library about that close, but its not a very good branch, the parking is lousy and I don't care much for the people there - more the clientele than the workers, but that's another story - I also don't like the nearby grocery for the same reason...

Libraries are the best. Our local has a lending program where we can order books from other county libraries, and a library of DVDs with over 5000 titles county wide--2 week checkout period, 2 renewals per checkout (for when you misplace the book LOL) and a permanent Friends of the library used book sale for donations. I bet yours has alot of the same. Mine also has computers you can use for 1 hour for free and printing is 10 cents a page. Libraries were Ben Franklins Best Idea Ever (which he stole from the romans, greeks and egyptians, but oh well-- the copywrite had expired on the idea anyway)

It is great that you have discovered a library close to your home. I love to visit the library and I have more than one library card. Sometimes I visit the small library close to my home and sometimes I visit he big library in another city. I prefer the big library because there are so many books to choose from, but that library is not close to my home, so I can't visit it that often. I visited it yesterday and I borrowed a lot of different books. I am planning a trip at the moment and I like to borrow different kinds of guidebooks so that I can read more about my destination.

Yes! Here in AZ where I live the main library is gigantic; its 4 flours built so each floor has a theme of sorts. main entrance, teen and kids seperate areas and so forth. The best part is the internet access; you have tons of room to plug your laptop on one of the lower floors or go to the top floor and have tons of privacyPlus the back wall of the top floor is made of glass so you can see the city skyline and areas around the library-while your on the internet. Its an amazing place.

i love libraries too! every after my class ends while I was still in high school I would go to the library and borrow books. I read my books and also scout for new ones and my classmates would sometimes hide the nice books but we manage to find them out.
