Euros: Will the 1-1 draw against Croat cost Italians a place in the knockouts?

Italy were held to a 1-1 draw by the Croatians in the Group C match yesterday. The Italians went ahead with a superbly taken freekick by that old fox Andreas Pirlo. But Croatia came back late in the game with an equalizer by Mandzukic. Both teams had chances to win the match, but could not finish the moves. This leaves Group C in an interesting situation. If Spain and Croatia draw their match 1-1 and Italy wins, then Spain go through and between Croatia and Italy whoever scores more against the Irish go through. If Spain and Croatia draw the match 2-2 or more, then Italy is out whatever the result of their match. If Spain beat Croatia, then Italy will go through if they win their match.
What do you think of Italy's chances of going to the next round?
Cheers!
Ram

Why are Italy out if Croatia and Spain draw 2 - 2 ?

Because as per Euro rules, In case three teams are tied, then their head to head would be taken into consideration. Currently, Italy has tied 1-1 with both the other teams, so if they have a 2-2 tie, then by goal difference they are above Italy and hence Italy will go out if there is a 2-2 draw between Croatia and Spain.
Cheers!

It does seem a strange way of sorting things. You would have thought that goal differance would have been the first criteria if they were level on points.

Well Italy was just up to the expectation so far. They need a sure win in order to qualify for the next round. Anyway, I hope that they will do it and perform much more better in the coming matches .

If you ask me about whose chances is bigger to advance to the next round, i would say it's Italy. My prediction are based on paper strength and experience of course.Just hope that players like Balotelli and Cassano doesn't cost the Italian the match by getting themselves yellow card (which will reduce their game intensity) or red carded. Next match will be Spain vs Croatia / Italy vs Rep Ireland.
Of course i am not discrediting the Irish but i think the Italians have that something extra to go through. Spain will be meeting the Croats, maybe Del Bosque will opt for the same line up as the ones against Ireland but i would say that is enough for them to take full 3 points.
