I have a colleague who speaks very loudly in cellphones - be it a personal call or an official call. I'm very much irritated by this. Since I cannot change my department or my cabin, can you please suggest me with ideas and tricks on how to control her. And have you ever come across persons like this who speak very loudly in phones, even when others are there around them.

Maybe you should tell her upfront that she's very loud and suggest for her to take the call inside a room with no one inside or to go inside the loo she could shout there even since she's alone inside.
You can even suggest her to use a headset so that she can speak softly on it.

I would suggest the same, that you confront her, that it bothers you that she talks so loud while on the phone.
but of course talk to her in a respectful manner, don't make your conversation like you are insulting her or anything just be informative and suggestive, but then if she doesn't change still, then you better buy yourself some earplugs or try to annoy her so that she will not stay in the same room as you when she has somebody on the phone. xD

Of course I don't like speaking loudly in the cellphone. Today the cellphone is quite common and therefore I don't want others to pay attention to me when I am speaking the phone. Besides, it seems to be rude to speak loudly in public. If I speak loudly in the cellphone, perhaps at that time I am so mad and I am yelling.
I love China

Hi dream home, glad to see your topic after a long time. How are you? sorry to hear about your colleague, really it is hard to deal with this kind of persons. I too face some persons in this sort while i am in outside, some people talk loudly with their cell in public place. To avoid her habit, just tell her that you meet a person in the street on the way to your office, that person is talking loudly in the street and some way passer blamed him a lot for his activity. Hope your friend will change after hearing this news.

If I had my speaker phone turned on I do speak loudly but this is not in my everyday routine while calling.
It’s only when I am doing some things like ironing my clothes and I am working my two hands so I cannot pick up the phone and talk but rather turn the speaker phone on to converse, I talk loudly since the person whom called can’t hear my voice clearly.

Well, if I have to be honest, I never speak very glad with the cellphone. This is usually because the usual calls of person who needs something (I mean, rather, unimportant things, mind you!).
Coming to the topic, I still talk on the phone when I'm on the street, not like those who surround me hear what I'm saying, so my voice is very low.
I did not, however, never understood the reason why people should speak loudly to the cellphone!

Well I do encounter people like that who speak so loud every time they someone call them in their phones.Quite annoying and irritating somehow especially when it is the only one your hear.I better go out in the place, put my headset or divert myself into something to avoid listening to them.Maybe it is their nature so we better respect them but maybe they should also be aware there are people around them also.

Hi dream, wow does that annoy me...I see no reason for people
to have a conversation on a phone and speak so excessively loud
unless they have a heasring problem...and I know for a fact that
everyone dosen't have a hearing problem..It seem like when people
get on their cell phones they just totally shut out the rest of
the world and they just don't care who is around...
I think its terrible and I it really really annoy me...

That would be a great problem, it will be habit if she won't stop it.. It really annoys me to hear someone talking very loud on phone be it in private or public place.

Hello dreamhome
As someone else has suggested, perhaps they can't hear well on the mobile, so they are speaking loudly. Perhaps you could get your roommate one of those headsets that looks like the old home telephone recievers? I have one and it works wonders. I can hear much more clearly.
Another idea is to get her a Cone of Silence. You could probably make one out of a huge plastic garbage can. But of course, there are other ways to make it.
