When I was a kid,my mom and my teacher, who happens to be my aunt, helped me to practice everyday on my writing in order to have a good penmanship or a legible handwriting someday.. I did not listened to them, I used either hands, right or left - ambidextrous as they call it but that is beside the point. I admit - my hand writing is so bad. I can't even read my own notes at times. It's funny, that I'm even looking for a decoder now. My colleagues even joke on me that I'm not from here but alien. It's not that I looked like those on TV but I write like an alien.
They say, that when you want to be successful in anything, you need to have a good and legible hand writing. Good thing, I have pc and some electronic ones that converts my ideas. But let's face it, we may not always have them around forever.
Do you agree that at my age,I can learned to write legibly? What can I do to improve? I even have grandchildren now. These are the kids of my nephews and nieces.

While having a good penmanship is an advantage, it is not the primary factor for success for most people. Actually, attitude, or having a "winning attitude" is the powerful factor that drives people to success.

First of all, I think some successful people scribble. I think many physicians are proof of that when they "scribble out" a prescription.
On the other hand I believe we can improve at any age if we have that desire.
There isn't as much need to be actively involved in handwriting now because of our technology. The fact that we can write using computers and cell phones means that we don't have the same opportunity to practice handwriting like some people from an older generation.
Follow your heart. Maybe your handwriting is good enough.

No,I do not agree that successful people write legibly.Doctors are very successful people and cannot write! At least most of them anyway.Thirty-two years ago when I was pregnant with my oldest child I had an earache and I called and they said that I could come by the clinic and pick up my prescription. When the nurse handed my the piece of paper and I looked at it,I told her that I could not take it.And she looked at me strangly and asked,"Why?".I replied,"I can read it! They will think I forged it." And she laughed and said go to the pharmacy here."

I know some people who write badly and their penmanship is unreadable. But at the brighter side, they are very successful in terms of work and business. I also know a lot of friends who have pretty handwriting yet they are jobless. So I guess I can say that my answer is 50-50.
It's never too late for you to practice your writing skills. It takes a lot of patience to practice until you make it perfectly. If possible, you can mimic or imitate a friend's good handwriting. Then you can make your own handwriting.

I don't think so. Take the case of doctors. They're successful and yet their handwriting is so unreadable. haha.
Anyone can learn anything - even handwriting at any age. We should never stop to learn something new. :)

I would just like to add that if you want to improve youir handwriting, have a notepad or paper. Hmm, write your thoughts, be it good or bad. If you red something from newspaper or heard from radio or tv, write it. Write thank you notes to some people that you had interact with. I mean, gas boys, vendors, neighbors.. Anybody. You may even want to write a friend or relative.
These are only my suggestions on how to improve it as you had asked. ;)

In my own opinion, our handwriting has nothing to do with success. Unless, the job we wanted to pursue has something to do with writing manually. On the question whether you could still improve your handwriting, I can say nothing is impossible in this world. Personally, they would say that my handwriting is really beautiful, so I told them that if I am concentrating well on what I am doing, more or less the result is better. There are times that I can not also read what I wrote because I am not concentrating on what I am doing or sometimes I am in a hurry.

You can try, but it might not work. Some people have very bad hand writing even if they try. It is also more difficult to do the cursive script then the old one they had years ago. I found it hard to do the regular American way of writing so I sort of half write, half print. I also can write a short time before my wrist starts to hurt. I had a wrist injury years ago.

When I had reports for school I would practice writing to make the report nice and neat. I have been told my handwriting is very nice. You obviously have not seen some doctors signatures. Very sloppy and unreadable yet they are successful. I hope my grandson learns to write better. It is not so good right now. He is only nine.

a pleasant day mikyung,
with regard to your post, i really don't think that the penmanship has to do with the success of an individual. although it can somehow contribute but due to the evolution of technology, those people who cannot write legibly can use the different functions that technology can give. same as what you have mentioned in your post, that you have the pc plus other electronics that can help you convey your ideas. but, still you can practice your handwriting for you to improve more your penmanship. though you have your grandchildren now a days.

Nope I don't agree that successful people write legibly, that shouldn't be a basis for success. I have bad hand writing too but it has never crossed my mind that it would meAsure my success in the future. I do get alot of comments from people saying that my hand writing is butt ugly.

Hi Mikyung, I think the success of a person is not based on his/her penmanship it is more on hardworking and determintaion in life. At you age if yor willing to learn how to write legibly you can do so and start practicing now with your grandchildren. With they help and your determination I think you do it easily. Always remember there is no age limit in terms of learning. Goodluck. :)

Not at all, did you forget that doctors have the worst penmanship ? hence they are one of the most successful professionals around. For me, the signature of one person does reflect one's success hahaha so funny but i just observed it, my idols and other professionals i met have beautiful signature LOL.. doesn't make sense at all :)

Thanks for your time KCLGphilsBSA. I have plenty of relatives who are doctors but they write legibly. It really depends on the person, right. I think, as long as we have the determination, we can achieve anything regardless if we write that bad or not. Thanks

Success is not determine how they write.Write legibly is a practice and has got nothing to do with success. There were people who can't right legibly but they were very successful in life. There also which can write legibly but their career is not going so well.
Though successful people tried their best to express themselves better in writing its enhancing themselves being successful.
