What's the Deal with Ezekiel 15, about Burning the Vine & the Branches?

Thinking about it, I see what Jesus Christ might have meant when He said 'I am the Vine and you are the Branches'---that we are of no real use (by ourselves), except as we 'bear fruit' to better the world.
'Fruit of the Vine' goes on to feed hunger and slake thirst, leaving seed to grow new Vines and new Branches to bear more Fruit and more Seeds to grow new ... etc.
But the original Vine & Branches are a long time gone, leaving only the patterns they implanted in the seeds they bore.
That's kind of a hopeless message though; that all we can hope for (as disciples of Christ) is that our own seed will grow much the same way we did (watching them while we are burning).
Does that sound about right? Or do you discern a different message from Jesus Christ with respect to the Vine and Branches in Ezekiel 15?

The reference of Jesus as the vines and the one mention in Ezekiel are two different things.
Jesus as a vine and we are the branches meant that we are nothing without Jesus. How can a branches survive without a vine to hang on. When removed from the vines, the branches will eventually die not to mention about bearing fruits.
At the Ezekiel, it refers to Jerusalem. Jerusalem have become the vine but not a good one. In the end it produce a bad seed. That is why God sent this vines to the fire so it will produce bad seeds anymore and eventually it will be replace by new good vine in form of Jesus Christ.

Then why didn't Jesus say 'I am the trunk of the tree and you are the branches?'

Your discernment I believe may be better than me as I haven't put much time to study about the vine and the branches in Ezekiel. It is good to know that there are disciples like you who are learning more about God's Word. Truly, we can't bear fruit on our own, especially when we're not part of the vine who is Christ. May you continue to prosper and know more of God's wonderful Word.

You can "Search the Web" for Ezekiel 15 ... it's a real short chapter, about 10-or-less verses ...
