Yes today was my birthday and I asked my children not to buy
me any more clothes...but that fell on deaf ears..I just don't
need any more clothes, nothng...But they still go shopping for
me anyway..I went out with my daughter and boy was I so so tired
when I returned home 4 hours later...
I started my day with my walking and then I took my friend who is 85
years old to the doctor after he called saying his ankle was swollen.
I took him and waited for him even tho my daughter was waiting for me.
I still have to go pick up a stocking perscribed by his doctor and
take it to him tomorrow..He need my help so how could I say "NO" to
him....

I think that you should just appreciate the fact that your children like to buy you things. If you know that they're going to buy you clothes for your birthday, then perhaps you should cut back on the amount that you're buying in the months before as you know that you're going to be getting some new things in just a little while. You could give them ideas about other things that they could buy for you, maybe things that you actually need rather than just want, and that way they can give you something that you're really going to like and actually be able to use.

thanks Gemma, you must have misunderstood my point....first I
have not bought myself any amount of clothing *other than a piece
here and there* in many months...like I previously stated I have
no reason to buy a large amount of clothing...But I do appreciate
everything my children/grandsons purchase for me..And they don't
buy items that I can not use, so of course I will wear them.
What I am saying is that I have about 15 or more pairs of jeans..
but they see clothings that they want me to have they are going to buy
them,,,same with shoes/sandels..I never want for anything so that
why an idea to them is mute...They even buy jewelry as well as.
I have still have 15 pairs of jeans after giving my friend about 9 pair.
I am not a miser I just am not as active as I was when I was younger
and they now I use too have lots and lots of clothes when they were
young and I was active as well as working..

Hi Cutie, I would have loved fish and an aquarium..I have always
like those beautiful fish, But I think they are salt water fish
(the ones I am talking about) which need a little more attention...
so regular fish is ok as well.
just not gold fish....

I guess it is sometimes hard to find something you really need for a gift. What would you like to have or do on your birthday? It is good of you to help your neighbor. I hope his leg gets better.

Thanks Gerty, I don't even now what I would have wanted to do.
I am going on vacation soon so I am just waiting patiently
for that time...So I am really ok and did't really want or need
anything....
Yes I hope he will be feeling better soon...He almost passed
out when he was advised that the stocking the doctor had perscribed
$44.00...and the insurance would not pay for it even tho it was
a perscription...

Happy Birthday BJ ! Doesn't sound like you had a very fun day though! I think it's sweet that your kids want to buy you nice things but I know how you feel. I hate my kids spending money on me. I just soon have lunch with them or something.
As for your friend...bad timing but I don't imagine he timed it. That was so kind of you to put your own plans on hold to help him out. You are such a good friend to those lucky enough to be your friend and I'm sure that he really appreciates you. Again, Happy Birthday and I hope that tomorrow you will be able to kick back and enjoy your day doing something that YOU really want to do.

yes sid, not only do I not need anymore clothes, but I hate
for my children/grand children to spend unnecessary money on
stuff for me that I don't need..
Yes I took my friend the knee high stocking he needed,,,it
cost $44,00 and his insurance did not pay for it. But the
doctor perscribed it for him and I had to run all over to
several places to get the one they perscribed...But hopefully
he will be ok...

Ha ha, I hope you kept the receipts! Everyone in my family and circle of friends knows not to buy me clothes... I need to try them on and I'm quite picky about the fit & the style. Thank goodness. I still get socks on my birthday though. . I guess, it's the thought that counts!

Happy Birthday (a bit late). I tried to respond earlier today, but MyLot didn't let me.
I think you are very kindhearted to see to the needs of your friend before going out with your family for your birthday. I hope the swelling in his ankle is going down.

Hi BJ, it is indeed lucky to be able to have your birthday celebrated with your loved ones. Sometimes, it is really hard to tell them as not to buy things that we don't needed for our birthday. Almost every year, i am receiving same gifts from my family members. I think we should accept whatever gifts that they are giving us during our special day. Happy to hear you are such a very helpful friend as well. Hope you have a great birthday celebration with your family and friends.
