last june 12 my country; the Philippines ; celebrated Flag Day. on this day a lot of houses, cars, government offices and buildings displayed our National Flag in celebration of this very important day. on television we saw a lot of special features aired about the historical significance of our Flag. this inspired me to research on the net. i learned among many things that the white triangle on our flag is equilateral and the width of the red and blue strips is one half the length of the flag. the three stars point to the vertex of the triangle where they are. the rays of the sun has its specific dimensions too. even the colors red and blue evolved. there is even one feature that our government is still debating upon whether to add to the design of our Flag or not. how about you when you see the Flag of your own country would you be able tell about its symbolism. does your Flag still have significance in your daily life?

Well I am an Indian and the national flag is three strips , deep saffron , white and India green in the form of a typical, horizontal tricolor with a spoked wheel in the middle with 24 spokes called the "Ashok Chakra". The saffron stripe is for Sacrifice, white for peace and green for Truth, and at times prosperity or fertility but at the time of design it was for truth alone. The wheel or the 'Ashok Chakra'(also spelled as Ashoka) is for the eternal wheel of law.

buddha3 is correct billutheguy...you gave a very good description of your National Flag. but i just have one question ..."what does the 24 spokes represent. our National Flag has a white equilateral triangle symbolizing fraternity and equality. in the center of the white equilateral triangle is an eight-ray golden sun symbolizing unity, freedom, people's democracy and sovereignty. each ray of the sun represents the first eight provinces that started the 1896 Philippine revolution against Spain. the eight provinces are Manila,Cavite, Pampangga,Bulacan,Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Laguna, Batangas.
