I just realize that our favorite Disney cartoon characters are growing old. What I mean is that, those movies that we have right now like Red Riding Hood (Little Red Riding Hood), Snow White and the Huntsmen Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs), and the upcoming Jack The Giant Hunter (from Jack and The Beanstalk) are actually characters that are already mature. I love those original characters that they have and we can get values out of those characters. I didnt say that these movies doesnt have any values at all. But I was just wondering how my children in the future will get confuse on whose the original character. It is the Red Riding Hood whose father is a wolf or the original story Little Red Riding hood.
I love those movies though and appreciate it that they made something like it. It shows how the writers, producers and directors created such a beautiful story our of the original one.
What do you think?

I thought of that too, at first I thought Red Riding Hood is based on original story but when I watched it, it's matured and kinda boring.

Well in all fairness, these characters and stories are much older than Disney and Disney does not really own them. There certainly is a tend to take an old fairy tale and to make it darker and edgier for modern audiences. I think it's kind of awesome because I'm a total sucker for fairy tale retelling.
And in even further fairness... fairy tales in their original form were pretty darn dark. In fact, Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White are the first fairy tales I think of when I think of a fairy tale that was originally not for kids! They've softened in retellings, but their origins are pretty scary.
As for dramatically different retellings themselves, I say let them come. Retellings is how these stories and characters have survived in the imagination for so long. I think the stories will always swing back and forth between innocence and maturity, and for children there will always be lighter retellings that will show them the original characters.

I've seen a few Disney movies but none of the more mature movies.
But the thing is, these are not original Disney characters. The original Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, etc. are not stories I would recommend for kids to read. These mature movies are truer to the original stories. Disney just changed some details and endings to make them family-friendly and with a bunch of aesops.
