Who will be my new Best Friend?

Dachshund Puppy - This picture is of a dachshund puppy, with black and honey gold coloring. Due to this coloring it can be mistaken for a Doberman, but its oblong body sets it apart as a dachshund. Very adorable.

I am planning to get a dog very soon. But I live in India and that puts some restrictions on the breeds of the dogs that I choose from, due to India's hot weather. It seems that Alsatians, Dobermans, Pomeranians and Bull Dogs are fine, but they are really big and I am looking to get a small dog, maybe even a miniature. Pug is the latest trends in pets around here, but it scares me sometimes due to its unusual face. If nothing better seems apparent soon, I will opt for a pug. Can anyone please suggest a breed of dog that is adorable, cute, small in stature [so I can keep it indoors], will adjust well in India and is not to expensive to obtain? I think I am asking a lot, but any suggestions will be welcome.

Hello kkaria309 I have been a friend of dogs my entire life, and have been blessed to share in the lives of many different breeds, both large and small. The psychoartist has mentioned the miniature greyhound and the chihauhah. I have been around miniature greyhounds and they are very sweet animals, although a bit timid. As such, I have had owners who say they are prone to anxiety. I have never been a fan of chihauhuahs, but in recent years, have owned a couple and found them quite endearing and not at all yappy. I suspect that the yappiness may be a product of the owner more tha the animule. My favorite small dog (and beware, I am very biased) is the Scottish Terrier. These fellows are adorable, very cute, and small in stature, however, they are big in heart. These dogs are not afraid of anything and are fiercely loyal to their masters. I am not so sure about their adapting to the climate of India, as I am not familiar with India's climate. The only downside to these dogs is that they have to have their fur trimmed from time to time. But the plus to this is that they do not shed. Whatever your choice, I hope that you have a wonderful experience with your new canine companion.

Your post was really helpful. Truly. I hope this Scottish Terrier will be able to adjust in India, because adorable, cute and big in heart are the perfect dogs for me. I do not like chihuahuas much, maybe I am subjecting my opinions based on unfair judgments, but I do not know what to do about that. And as for trimming fur, I am good at hairstyling and my aunt is a professional hairstylist. Would that help? I really hope I can get the Scottish Terrier, What you said about the breed has convinced me.

I am glad that I have been helpful to you, kkaria. I love the Scottish Terrier. They can be a handful during their puppy years, but they are wonderful companions and very smart. I think that you would love this breed and personality very much.

Yes, that is a nice dog. Isn't that the one from the movie 'Hachiko - A Dog Story'? Lovely movie, showed the dog was immensely loyal.

hi kkaria! i love dogs and have read a lot about them and their ways and needs...i also used to watch a show called dogs 101 on the animal planet channel...i saw a dog there who might be happy in your country's climate...and he is small and easy to carry around with you....it is the italian greyhound, a miniature greyhound who suffers from cold easily...in the show i saw, the italian greyhound shivered a lot and had to wear sweaters...also, there is always the chihuahua, but i am not a big fan of the chihuahua as they seem very yappy! i have only liked one chihuahua in my life and he had a wonderful personality...so it may depend on the individual dog, just like people! i hope you find your canine companion soon, dogs make home life wonderful!

Thank you I love dogs too. I will look for the 'Italian Greyhound'. And I do not like chihuahuas either. They do not appeal to me look-wise. They have no hair, they are super-skinny... I do not know, I have never seen one in person, so maybe I will be more impressed with them, if I see one. I am literally looking for a new best friend.
