I am not familiar with the fruit avocado since it is not an usual fruit growing in my country. All the avocados are imported. I noticed that there are two kinds of avocados in a supermarket. One is with the black skin, and the other is with the green skin. What's the difference between these two avocados? Which one is much more delicious?

I live in Florida. We had an avocado tree it the back yard at the house I grew up in. It grew very tall. It was at least 25 feet high. The leaves were shiny, large and dark green. We lived in that house at least 10 years, and the tree never bore fruit. I'm not sure why. Otherwise, the tree looked healthy. Florida avocados are very large and green. In my state, we have to ship the little black ones from where they grow in California, because they just don't grow here. The soil in Florida is very acidic and although we are considered the number two largest agricultural state(California is number one)the only thing that really grows here is citrus. We used to be the largest producers of celery, though. And I was surprised to find out that we grow most of the country's potatoes. I had always thought Idaho was king of the potato. Florida also has more cows than Texas. We have more cows than any state. I always thought I grew up in a "cowtown." Florida is also THE flattest state in the union; everyone thinks it's Kansas. The highest elevation here is only 400 feet. A hill, basically. What is the difference in taste? It really depends on the individual. My Mom was raised in California and turns her nose up to the larger, green, Florida avocado. The price is basically the same here in Florida. Each variety costs about one American dollar each. However, you get more avocado for your dollar with the Florida variety because it is bigger. The California avocado(the black one)has kind of a sweeter taste to it; whereas, the Florida one has a more mild, less pronounced flavor. I tend to buy the Florida one, because I live in Florida, and want to buy as much locally produced food as possible, but also because I get more avocado for my money. But that's just me. I don't know how much they cost where you are, but I would imagine they would be quite expensive. Go ahead and try the black one first(since my Mom thinks those are better). And don't feel bad for not knowing much about them. Many times in the grocery store, when I bought any type of avocado, the cashier would look at me in amazement and ask what it was, and how to eat it. I can't believe anyone who lives in Florida would NOT know what an avocado is. Plus, she worked in a freaking grocery store. Some people just don't know how to eat.

Also, you slice it open, remove the large seed and make long slices to place on top of a salad, or you can make a dip called"guacamole." Also, you can grow your own avocado tree from the seed. You get toothpicks and poke them into the side of the seed to hold it above a cup filled with just enough water to touch the bottom of the seed. Then, once roots form, you can place it in the ground. I have never met anyone that successfully grew a tree. But it's very common place here in Florida to receive these "starter trees" as gifts from friends or neighbors, or as "house warming" gifts. Even my little sister was growing her seed in a coffee cup at her little apartment when she lived here in Florida. Hmm, I have never tried my luck. I think next time I'm at the store I will buy an avocado.

Here the best price for the avocado seems to be about USD3.20/pc.

I don't think there is much difference. Here are a couple of articles about them: http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrition/healthy-eating/green-avocado-vs-black-avocado.html http://aolanswers.com/questions/green_skin_black_avocado_snacks_518319433158676
