Some versions of Windows can go up to 192GB. Pretty sure you can't actually physically have that much, though, at least not yet.
The biggest single thing of RAM I've seen is a Corsair RAM kit, 24GB for $1,300. Which is pretty much insane.

Dell sell a machine which can handle upto 192GB of ram. The ram is limited by not only the motherboard and bios itself but also the Windows version you use. For example Windows 7 Ultimate on an x86 system (32bit) will only use upto 4GB of ram where as x64 (64bit) can use upto 192GB of ram. Obviously as I said it will depend on your motherboard and bios also but all Windows are also different.

For home or business computers, 16 gigs of DDR3 ram is the current maximum.
However, if you're building up the circuits of a computer from scratch, then there really isn't a limit on ram.
Samsung recently announced that they have made a 4 gig chip, meaning that 1 single piece of ram can have up to 32 gigs, and so an average computer could have up to 128 gigs of ram... of course, with the level of power that games and programs are at, nowadays, it would be hard to tell the difference between 16 gigs of DDR3 ram, and 128 gigs of DDR3 ram... but... just give it another 10 years, and then, you'll see the difference.

In our country the most of the people use maximum 8GB RAM. Some others are still behind to extending their RAM capacity. Don't know why they are behind it? As far as I concern just 4GB is enough for home use and 8 GB is enough for normal office use. They why people are always behind of increasing their RAM capacity ?
