I do battle almost daily. I attack it with rags and Pledge, Windex and brooms, dusters and micro-fiber clothes. But still it remains.
It is on my dresser, on my desk, on my fan, on my laptop, in my hairbrush, on my floor and collecting in every corner, building an empire ready and waiting to ATTACK!
I'm talking about dust of course.
Our house is super dusty, and even though I'm CONSTANTLY dusting things I never seem to have any LESS dust.
So, do any of you have any dust busting tips. Does a certain cleaner work well for you? Is there a magic cloth or super duster that I don't know about? Is there any way I can win this dusty war?

Hello nonersays
I have noticed that many people have a problem with the dust collecting in their homes, on the dresser, on the desk, on the fan, on the laptop, on the desktop, on the hairbrush, on the floor, in every corner, and all sorts of places.
I am not surprised at this problem, especially when I read about all of the dusting that people do in their homes. I do believe that this is the major problem of dust accumulation in the home -- all the dusting that people do.
I suggest that you stop all of this dusting! It's really crazy to think that this will do anything positive!! I have found that un-dusting is much more productive in removing dust. If you continue to dust, the dust will only spread and accumulate. Trust me. Undusting works better.

I don't think I've laughed so hard in a long time as I just did at this comment.
I think you may have solved the whole dusty house dilemma. I will dry un-dusting for a week or two and see how that goes.

I'm glad you took it well. Wasn't sure how you would react, but couldn't resist.
I think you'll be very satisfied with your new un-dusting technique.

i have to agree with pageturner, there is just no point in stirring up dust...you may regret it later...let sleeping dust lie...

It is not easy to win this dusty war because it is in the air where you do live.
It is the same in here. I do clean my house every week and my room 3-4 times a week...but i still see much dust on table.
We have no choice...just do clean every day only...

I've not resorted to dusting EVERY day. I know I should, but stick to de-dustin a couple times a week.

If you feel you cannot control the dust with your hands then make use of vacuum cleans to suck them. I just use my vacuum cleaners once in a month to clean all my rooms.

hi nonersays, unfortunately thev living room furniture in my husbands old apartment was black and we decided to keep it as it is a real "space miracle". With this decision comes the fight against the dust settling much too quick.
We use something like swiffers, the generic cheaper kind of the stuff and it works like a charm. We wont have to dust our place weekly any more but every three weeks is all right.

I should get some of those sorta-swiffers! Sounds like they work better than my current method at least.

Yes you can. I got rid of carpeting. I only have small area rugs. I had to, I have asthma and have many cat's. I used to own a house now I rent a house with absolutely no carpeting and I love it.
I love that I can clean and I know it is really clean. I vacuum with the bottom flat part then use the wand for the edges then mop with soap. If there is dust like on the t.v. stands, once a week I vacuum it off then damp rag it.

We got rid of our carpets about 3 or 4 years ago. I actually PREFERRED to have carpets, I HATE the wood floors we have now.
Still dusty though, no matter how much or how often I clean.

Hmm that is really strange. When I vacuum I get about a half plastic container full but some of that is litter. I never dust any surfaces all the time though. Hmm, no you don't want carpets, all they do is create even more dust. And all the dirt is trapped in the carpets and you live in dirt, yuck.
Maybe it's your vacuum. Try getting a new vacuum, one without a just a plastic container. I have a Bissell easy vac with easy empty and it has a H.E.P.A. filter which I change periodically and I absolutely love it. I get about a half container of dirt every two days from it from the whole house.

hi,
I do agree with you. My house is too on the road. And so the dust everywhere in the house which i use to clean everyday. No other option but to go on cleaning and cleaning. You have asked for some magical cloth or a super duster. I would appreciate of getting something like that. or else i would prefer a robot to do all these cleaning jobs.

A robotic maid, like the one "The Jetsons" had would be great.
I'd also settle for being able to afford a REAL maid to do the cleaning for me.

Haha I knew exactly what you were talking about within that first sentence :D
Unless you have a permanent vaccuum cleaner it's darn near impossible. Sorry I probably won't be too useful since some people have already given some good advice. All I was really going to say was that we will never be able to get rid of all that dust but when I'm dusting I do it with the vaccuum because sweeping etc just moves and shifts the dust around and does nothing IMO.

I really do need to go through the entire house and dust really well. Ugh I hate it. Keeping the floors swept, mopped and vacuumed is hard enough without adding the dusting. I am really thinking hard on it now and I guess I will just have to get up and do it. LOL! Thanks for the motivation.

Glad I could inspire!
I was going to get up and dust the house again after I finished writing this discussion, but I didn't. The dust has won this battle....but the war wages on.

Same here with our working place. Even though we are cleaning everyday still the dust won't disappear. I am working in a feed mill so naturally it is really dusty here. I heard our manager talking about mineral oil to reduce dustiness but I don't know if it will work at home. If you are near the streets, you can try to spray your ground with water so that the dust won't disturb when a vehicle pass by.

I think our dust must be coming from an inner source. We live on a paved street in the middle of the city, not a lot of dirt around.

Thats what a friend on facebook told me. She said, "Exfoliate more."
I'm wondering though....I have a dog with skin problems....I wonder how much of this "dust" is doggy skin flakes.

Some good ideas here, I wish I could take my carpet out but I rent so t hat's not an option for me. As for me I have to do a little bit every day to keep it under control, especially around electronics. Hmmm you could try NOT dusting for a week, then you could see that it really does make a difference when you do! LOL ;) I am with you, it's a pain!

Oh, it makes a differecne when I dust. For about an hour. I could dust 3 times a day I think, and it would be dusty again in a couple hours.

I think dust is part of the world. My house has a few spiders in it sometimes I think their cobwebs collect it. I know electronic things attract dust. It seems it is nothing but maintance and cleaning is forever but can be kept to acceptable levels. I find air ducts, curtains and anything with a surface hold dust and if disturbed release it all over the house in layers.

We have LOTS of electronics in our house. Thats probably a lot of the problem. I do vacuum the ducts and the fans around. But every flat surface is COVERED. Even when I dust, before the day is over its COVERED again.

I guess dust is always there and everywhere. We wipe it everyday but still keep coming back. Maybe it could brought by wind or with us too once we go out then get back. I guess it could always be part of our daily life that we always need to clean always.

hi nonersays, lucky I have dust but not as much for me
to feel attacked..My windows are closed most of the time
and my building is pretty far bsck from the street so
that constanct street from traffic is non existence..
But have you tried the static duster..it traps dust, dirt,
and hair and you can use it on wood, metal and electonics.
It really works pretty good, but I also am not attack by
dust like you,,,lol,,,

Is that sort of like the swiffer type dusters? If so I've tried one. After just a couple of swipes it was COVERED in dust and didn't help any. My dust problem is HUGE.

We must keep our home and environment in a clean and clear manner. Dust will form easily in our home without our knowledge. Every day we must clean the important things to increase their life span. Electronic items like laptop, TV and other appliances are easily attacked by the dust and it will spoil the life span of the items, due to dust our laptop may give some troubles to us. We must always clear the dust and keep every thing in a clean manner.
Don't hesitate to clean all the important things daily, we can clear the dust in the electronic devices using a simple cloth or using the item cleaning electronic devices. We must use the vaccum cleaners to clean our home, Vaccum cleaner is the best device to find out the micro dusts and remove it from our home. We can use vaccum to clean our house once in a while. But clean the electronic devices frequently, as we use it frequently we must take a lot of care about it.
It is really hard to stop the forming dusts, but we can clear all the dusts with our ability and make our things clean and clear without dust. If we keep our environment in a clean manner, we can reduce the dusts a lot and our environment will be clean. We can avoid unwanted health issues in this sort.

I think it is not easy to win a war against the dust in your home. I feel it is really difficult and you need a lot of hands to make your home stay away from the dust. Each of the days our environment gets polluted and it is very common to have tiny dust particles in the air. So when the wind blows they enter into your houses. The only thing you can do is just clean your house on most of the days by using some dust sucking machines.

Hi,
I used to clean dust on the furniture in the morning. After that our maid cleans the floor in our house. But as you said after some time dust enters in our house with the wind. But in our previous house we are staying on ground floor. so dust problem was very serious there but now we have shifted to new house and it is on second floor. the dust is less here. I don't try to clear the dust constantly. I neglect it.
