Is it really worth it to buy a second hand car?

Both of my brothers bought a second hand car (not at the same time). One of them bought one a few weeks ago and I got really envy and had been wanting to buy my own. But of course, not now. I need to save more money. Haha! and I'm not a pro driver yet. Are second hand cars really ideal? I worry that if I'd buy one, I might regret it. What's your ride story?

There are quite a bit of second hand cars that are still great. It all depends on how they were maintained by the previous owner. I mylself bought a second hand car since I cannot afford to buy a brand new one. Luckily, what I have bought is still good and until now it has not given me any problem. Should you be buying one that is a second hand and have not much knowledge on cars as well as its engine, then I suggest that you should seek an advice fron someone who hasq the skill and ability to know a good one and a bad one.

Welcome to mylot Well you must know why the owner is selling, hire service of a good mechanic, ask him to check engine condition and body condition of the car; also see who was/were the previous owners, hope this helps.

Hi cleverland, I don't know what you mean by not a pro driver yet. If you're a new driver it makes complete sense to buy a second hand car as you'll not feel as bad if you have scratches or dents on your car. Anyway buying a car which is about 2 to 3 years old is ideal as most new cars depreciate a lot in those first couple of years adn you'll be saving money. The only snag in buying a second hand car is that you may not be aware of the condition of the car. Perhaps it has been involved in a major accident or the car is riddled with 'inherent' or 'chronic' problems. Of course you can and should send the car for an independent inspection before you commit. Have a good day.

I think it can be, but it is always a bit risky, so in my opinion it should only be done if you know quite a lot about cars or have a friend or someone else you trust who can come with you, who does. If you are totally clueless about cars, it may not be the best idea though.

I definitely think it's worth it if you do your research and have proper inspections done by a few people before you officially make your purchase. I know people who have bought brand new cars and had several issues, and vice versa. It really just depends on research and ultimately, luck I guess.

Depends. Mostly second hand cars has lots of problems that's why the previous owner had to sell it. But, sometimes you get lucky. My first car was used because I was just learning that time, but then we need to spend big money to fix something and luckily it fixed and was using it for 3 years and I sold it for a cheap price when I got another car.

If you know the previous owner then that will do. Or maybe ask someone who understand about cars, a mechanic probably can help you to check if the second hand car is till in good condition. You have so many things to consider when buying a second hand car. but if you have enough money, I suggest that you buy a new one that will save you from many headaches and troubles for a long time.
