Actually, I have my own opinion about this statement. But, I just want to know other's opinion, thus, the discussion.
"You will realize your true self when you learn to copy others"
Now, the question is: Is it true or not?

We are all a mirror or reflection of the people around us and the people that raised us. As much as we want to be unique we learn our actions from others. Humans are all chameleons. I think deep down we mostly want to fit it. We find qualities we like in others and copy them, or make them our own. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. And I guess that would make the saying true.

I agree and very well said. We are unique but our uniqueness came from others. We may have the word "originality" but originality has also its roots. :)

Sorry about this next few words of mine but it is true that most humans really wants to fit in that it's almost a pity that we are so much into the human system created by the human society that's why the world is having a rather difficult time lately.

It is not about fitting in. It is about having a trait from others. I'm speaking from experience when i say that people sometimes adapts to other's traits. I once copied unintentionally the way my friend laughs and only realized it when I was doing it often times. I've also learned sarcasm from my classmates. So, sometimes or even most of the times, you'll get traits from others even if you didn't realize it.

Absolutely not. How would you find your true self by copying others? It's not like you'd find something you like and cling to it...Everyone is an individual, and as we grow up, we may find aspects of other people we're like, but not as a whole. The only way you'd find yourself through other people is trial and error...Realizing that you're not going to find yourself through everyone around you and you just have to look within. I had a lot of identity issues growing up, and overall, finding yourself comes with adulthood. You learn to do what you love without caring how anyone else feels about it.

Masters copy the skills of the skillful, that's the reason why they are called masters because they have mastered a skill created by another person. Chef became chef because they copy the recipes of other great chefs, and used other people's ideas as well to improve the taste of their food. The same goes for any profession you see around. Professionals won't become professionals if they haven't copied the skills of their predecessors and other people. Seems to me these people found themselves by copying others.

Sinful Rose, you've got the same opinion as i do. True that masters won't be masters when they haven't mastered skills. Why do we even have the word 'development'if not for copying ideas? Of course, people sometimes has to copy idea in order to make a greater idea. Why do we think that scientists have come up with such amazing inventions if not for their co-scientists inventions as well?

You know the obvious answer to that. Of course, I'm not going to be myself when i copy others. But i think what that statement is trying to tell is we will come to realize our true personality once we have undergone or experienced copying others.
