Do you think I made the right actions?

This last weekend due to my health condition I became irritable, sensitive and impatience because I really feel bad and I only want to get some sleep. But when I am already in bed I heard some noise inside our condo building. Most our neighbor's slammed their doors maybe because of the noise downstairs. So I listened to the noise and open the door to check what happening downstairs and asked the security guard about it. I am not supprised when I saw the security guard and some maintenance personnel drinking alcohol while on duty because this is not the first time. We already warned them about it and I think they just ignored our warning because they very comfortable with us. But due to my condition and maybe irritability I went back to our unit and grab my phone, I called the head officer in charge and even the owner of our building and reported the incident. After few minutes they stop making noise and I started to fell a sleep.
Then this morning, I noticed that our security guards are all new and I asked them about what happeded to those old guards. I learned from them that those old guards got fired last sunday due to unnecessary behaviour. I know they guilty and deserved to be fired because of their unpleasant actions and behaviour but at the back of my mind I pitied them, they lost job and might their family suffered from my actions.
If your in my shoe, will you do the same? Do you think I made the right actions about reporting the incident?

I can understand your frusteration with this. I know how it is to have an illness and then have struggles at times with every day life. People are not supposed to be drinking while on the job. As people do a lot of things they are not "supposed" to do. I mean I guess there are those perfect people that dont ever do anything that they are not supposed to, but I am not one. I do think that you might have been rash in your decision to hurry while you were angry and call to report them. If it was motivated by anger, then I dont think that the action was right. I am suspecting that you too have come to this conclusion. I do understand that you guys have warned them. But I would not have called and reported anyone. I dont call anytime about little minor things. Now If I saw someone drinking and driving, abusing another person, a stray dog runing around. Those situations I do call about. It can jeopordize the safety of others.
Anyways I hope you are feeling better!

Hi Bheblene,
Thank you so much for the best response. I thought that I would have gotten a negative since I pretty much went outside of what everyone else said. But I was being honest. I hoped that I didnt offend you and I guess I didnt.
Hope you are doing well.

your actions is justifiable enough to let other people know to mind others. we all know that people have differences, attitudes and characteristics. therefore each one of us, suffer from our own consequences. on their part they suffered of losing their jobs because of their actions and on your part you are comfortable with your rest. sometimes people will let people know their mistakes and we are just hoping that from that they will learn from it.
i admire good people like you. keep it up!

If you warned them and they never listened to what you were saying, I guess this was the only right thing for you to do. All guards should learn to be more responsible and respectful since people living that building are the who employ them by indirectly paying for their salaries.

Hi Bhebelen, I surely think you made thr correct decision,You
stated they had been warned..I think there are too many people
needing jobs these days to be acting up on a job...there is
always someone waiting to take your place.
Listen, right is right and wrong is wrong...suppose there had
been a real problem and they were needed and was not able to
preform their duties because they were drunk...
Don't give it a second thought, they didn't...
Hope you are feeling much better!!!!!!

hi bhebelen14...i think you did the right thing....if i would have been in your shoes i would have done this a lot earlier then you did...as they are here to protect us not to drink and make noise in their duty hours if they want to drink and enjoy they should do it after they are off thier duties.....how will a guard protect us from any situation if he is drunk during his working hour...we sleep peacefully at night only beacuse we know that we have someone who is watching our houses while we are asleep....so should be doing his jod not drinking....just dont feel guilty about anything..this will be a leason for them...:)

I would have done the same. The guard were not doing their duty and by not doing it he was placing all the people in the building in danger. Security guards must never be either drinking or even sleeping while on duty. They must watch. Good for you!

For me, you made the right move. They are the security guards who supposed to guard and keep you safe. If they constantly do that, how will they protect you in case of emergency? They must learn a lesson even though it means losing their jobs. Don't feel guilty, there's a reason why it happens. :)

I think yes I will do the same. You have given them already initial warnings but they just ignore that. Accordign to what they say, once is enough, twice is too much. So don't be guilty about it. You might feel tht because you are the one that reproted the incident to the owner of the building, but there are also others in the condo that irritates because of what they are doing or maybe, you are not the only one who reported it to the owner, perhaps there are alos others.

You did the right thing, and if I were at your situation I would do the same thing. They are supposed to be stay alert while performing their duty, because they are security men they should take care the building from bad people and i think drinking while on duty is a big NO to every kinds of job. You should not pitty them or their family who suffered from their action, they are grown up person they should know better than drinking at work, if they want to drink they should do it while they are on day off.

Well I think you made the right decision. As you have said, they are all warned several times regarding that act.
Sometimes, doing the right is really hard cause we know that some people will suffer with that right decision but we should always think that if we don right decision it will make other people change for the better.Right things are hard to accept sometimes but this is where we will learn and will change for our own betterment.

It's not your fault they lost their jobs, only theirs. They were the ones who didn't do their jobs properly and according to the rules, they were the ones playing with their jobs. Also, how they as security guards behaved was causing big problems, or coul,d have caused even bigger ones, so you did the right thing. As you live there, you have the right to live a tranquil life without noise.

Hi Bhebelen14! I would do the same if I'm in your shoes. People should know the price of their actions. People should perform their jobs well because they are being paid because of their customers. The thing they do is uncalled for. It is justifiable that you acted that way.

You're right! There's nothing to pitty because they deserved it. It should be a lesson for them.

If i were in your shoe, i won't fit cause i wear size 8. Just kidding. Anyway. I would do the same. Those security guards are suppose to be doing their job diligently and properly. What if something were to happen to some of the tennants, like fire or robbery? Would the security guard be in a proper condition to lend a helping hand? Same goes to the maintenance personel. What if some part of the condo like pipes for example that need some changes and they are not in a proper condition to work.
It is like you, for example you're a mother ( im saying it as an example okay) and your job is to be a mother to your kids. What happens if you're not actually doing your job as a mother, raising your kids and keeping things proper at home. All you did was drinking and making noise. It is not a conducive environment for you and your family right? Same goes to the situation you were in. Furthermore in your case just now, you said you were going to bed so i assume it is almost midnight. No one should be making noise near a residential area when it is bedtime for most people.Right?
