Some of my foreign friends said that Chinese is one of the world's most difficult language to learn. Well, i can not say if it's right or not, beacuse i am a chinese, so i can not feel about it. But i know that one of my friends who can speak chinese very well, i am so surprised. For at first when he chat with me, i even don't realize that he is not a chinese, beacuse he can write chinses so well. So, what do you guys think? Do you think chinses is hard to learn?

Yes though I'm not a Chinese and that because of my job.I learned Chinese language, both Cantonese and Mandarin.
Learning different language is one of my joy. I love learning language and I can't understand why. When I start learning a new language I'm getting excited. So, most country I'm travelling I intend to learn their language beforehand to be able to adopt myself easily to those I came in contact or work with.. I may not be as fluent like a native speaker at least I can understand their language gives a lot of benefits.
Happy mylotting!

Hello friend. How much time have you taken to learn chinese. I am also planning to learn it, that is why I'm asking it to you.
Your views are so interesting. Have you ever come here in India? If yes, have you learned any language from here ?

But yes, you are right, say the language what local people say, it's very important way to fit in them.

No, but i am interested to learn since my ancestors are Chinese and i have friends who are pure Chinese. Some of them can speak our dialect and some are not so i got interested in learning it and i find it difficult. I guess it's the same with different languages. If you try to speak our dialect then you'll probably say it's the hardest language to learn too. I find Chinese toddlers cute when they speak. So, cute and cuddly.

I think Chinese is difficult to learn because of the intonations. I believe there are about 4 intonations. But I think if I were to seriously learn it, I would be able to manage it well.
I have ever learnt Vietnamese with 6 intonations before and it was something that can be done. Writing in Vietnamese is not as difficult as writing in Chinese though. Chinese characters are difficult as each word is different. So I may not be able to master the writing, but in terms of conversational Chinese, I think I can do that. At this moment, I can only understand simple Chinese words and phrases, although I may not be able to respond to them.

I am a Chinese. Even though, I still think that Chinese is one of the most difficult languages in the world. As in usual I help a foreign friend to learn Chinese. And sometimes I found that I even don't know how to explain him well about the Chinese questions. His Chinese is already very good, but as a Chinese, I even don't know how to answer him something about Chinese. Since sometimes there is just no reason. A very common joke, you can not tease a person that he is a "dong xi", however, you also can't tease him that he is not a "dong xi". Interesting?
I love China

:) I know what you mean, i can understand it,beacuse sometime when i teach foreign friends, the same thing happened to me. I guess that's beacuse that Chinese words have so many kinds of meaning, even more than we think. Even our Chinese self have to learn it sometimes. As you said, i love Chinese, i love China. Have a nice day!

Yes, I think it's difficult to learn Chinese. I have tried doing so over summer. I had this Chinese class audio and I have tried but couldn't proceed to the next few levels because I just cannot get the tone. I have pretty much gotten through the 4th lesson, but when it came with the 5th, I was at a loss. I think I need someone who is a native speaker of the language because I am having trouble with the tones themselves.
Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Wow, sounds really hard to learn Chinese. I am a Chinses, so i guess i can not feel what you feel. Maybe you can watch Chinses movies more to help you learn Chinses. But you are right, to find someone who is a native speaker of the language to help you is useful. If you have some promble in learning Chinese, you can ask me, i guess i can give you some help in this.
Good luck!

Hello Arilguo,
Learning some other language is always difficult as you never get a person to communicate with in that language but still Chinese is one of the most difficult language to learn i have not seen any person knowing it in my knowledge here.

Yes I can speak chinese since my parents speak chinese too. I think it is not hard when you start learning it when you are still a kid. I am not a fluent chinese speaker but I do know the basics. The language is fun to learn. Learning chinese now is easy because there is pin yin.

I dont know much about chinese language but I feel Chinese language is little difficult to understand because of the facial expressions. They are bit difficult understand. It is different than what we generally see all over the world.
when I see the Chinese script I feel ' How can these words can bee written like this'.

i am a chinese. i think learning english for me is not easier than chinese learning for you.
because they come from 2 totally different systems respectively. and this point should be remembered when you study chinese. if you learnt chinese in english way, that is very boring and hard.just like learning english in a chinese way always causes embarrassment and confusion.
i think chinese langugage contains 3 systems: character, pinyin(phonetic symbol) and intonation. each of them can help sdudent learn the other two systems. each of four intonations indicates a certain class of emotion. characters which have related meanning mostly share similar pronociation and stucture. one character has a variation of meaning. but 2 or 3 charecter combination has a specific meaning. and combinations which contain hte same 1 character should be the same kind of things.

hello,
Like you I have also heard that Chinese is the world's most difficult language. I think its a beautiful language and one of the oldest language of this world. But I never tried to learn it because I think its too difficult to learn. But I know many people who have learned to speak and write Chinese and they will say that it's not quite that difficult. So in my opinion you should at least try learning it and then see what happens. All the best to you.

I don't think Chinese is difficult. The only hard part in learning Chinese is learning the characters. I'm a half-Chinese, half-Filipino, and over here in my part of the Philippines everybody speaks at least 3 languages: English, Tagalog and Visayan. If you're part of the Filipino-Chinese community, there are 2 more languages, namely Mandarin and Hokkien. So basically the average Filipino Chinese who lives outside Manila is pentalingual. Just to give you an example: Mommy = English, Niangniang = Mandarin, Nangnang = Hokkien, Inay = Tagalog, Nanay = Visayan
